i'm looking forward to playing there. think i am going to have a couple of rounds prior to i don't just hack it to bits.

-

"If" he says, "if i miss the fairway" haha ok, i'll take plenty of spare balls

-

geez, i've just done the course map, i better take 2 boxes!! There isn't a lot of room for error is there? And no fairways right next to each other for when you get it really wrong!!

this could be a debacle...

at least there will be beer, and "caddies" if i can organise them
-
First hit since Feb....f

9 hole twilight....first shot was something like a reverse shank, ended up with a triple bogey.

Managed a good birdie on my way to somehow getting 18 stblfd after 9.

so close to sneaking my handicap out 1 stroke too, just need to play 18! -
Love twilight eh as you can just risk up on the shots. Had a few 21 pointers that just don't feature with dudes getting like 25points for the 9

Played a bit recently but nothing great, just plain old there or thereabouts to handicap golf.

Did have a whack with the lads at clarks beach last Friday. Great hot day with plenty of beers including two pints between 9s. Had an 80 myself but one of the lads who had been overseas and not played for 5 years and was never really any good, shot a 90 which included any eagle 2 on a 270m par 4 after he holed out a wedge on the fly. Was a pretty cool day -

wow, 2 rounds in a week, and will play again on Sunday (same course) some utter shite mixed with some outstanding drives and iron shots, shame pretty much all of my chipping and putting sucked arse, had 4 birdie putts shave the cup today!

I mean today, after cracking out a 300m drive down the middle on the 12th, only to put my next in a lateral hazard, and then after taking a drop, my ball somehow ended up out of bounds beyond the green!! Stupid game!

The unfinished hole in the other round, I missed the fairway by metres, coudnt find it, and as we werent playing anything serious, I just took a penalty drop, and hit one up near the green, gone...

Both rounds I played the back 9 first.

well, played again today, bloody hot!!

Started on 10 again, bloody lucky to turn at only 4 over as I played poorly, then the back (front) 9, I made a slight adjustment based on something my son was told at a coaching session...hit every green in the front 9 bar the 9th, lipped out on birdie on 3 & 4, and on 8 I shaved the hole for eagle.

I was very lucky to only get bogey on the last (4 under at that point for the 9 and obviously even for 17 holes) but I was very happy to walk off with a 5 after almost sinking a 20 footer for par, which woulda summed up how good that 9 was for me putting wise as 3 of them were about 10-12 footers, which just isnt me...

Played Wairakei on Sunday as a mate and I felt like playing somewhere really nice for a change and that is the closest. I have boycotted it for the past couple of years as I found the service to be horrendously rude. I gave them a serve last time.

Anyway, I'm sure they are over it.... :)

It's a lovely course to play and the service has improved 9 fold.

Just about got on the green for two on The Rogue!(Used to be New Zealands Longest Par 5) Two super shots when we were offered to play through.
-
That's where I did my hundred holes in a day. Wicked course but it was all a bit of a blur. Would like to play it properly some day soon.

Played in an auckland anniversary open tournament at Pupuke yesterday and shot 78 which included 39 fukn putts.... Hit the ball really well off the tee and missed only 3 greens in regulation. Lost a ball too which didn't help but oh well, generally pleased with the round. 41 stableford and a net 65 so picked up some new golf shoes and a shirt plus a sleeve of balls for a 2.

Had 40 putts last week too. Usually have around 32 or 33 and lower on my better rounds so need to sort it out on the greens. -

Been getting the odd round in during the week at the moment as have been reasonably quiet at work. Still not putting great but striking the ball pretty dam well, just failing to convert.

Just got a call from a client and called in to fill a slot for ambrose at a charity day at the Grange tomorrow. Giddy up!
-

Very relaxed ambrose set up yesterday - all off scratch so no handicap adjustments, no need to take a minimum number of drives per team member and free booze everywhere.

Ended up with 64 which wasnt good enough to feature in the prizes and my golf was pretty average apart from driving the green in the first hole and holing out a 7iron from 155m on the 7th for an eagle. Otherwise I was pretty ho hum but did manage to sink the odd putt when called upon and had some nice touches around the green. Bloody good fun though, especially with the "opt in" holes where you pay $10 (all goes to charity) and if you manage to hit the fridge or tv in the middle of the fairway then you win a brand new one. Also had a car up for grabs for a hole in 1 but I didnt even hit the green on it. Was always gonna be a struggle though once I'd holed out on the 7th and then had to try do it again on the 8th. Good day out and raised over $50k for Cure Kids.
-
Played in the annual auckland chamber of commerce golf day today at gulf harbour. Ambrose format and we won it with a net 52.5 (gross 62). Picked up some sweet wireless speakers which I was gonna buy soon anyway.

I drove really well all day and chipped like a boss with heaps of spin from 60 to 80m out. Highlight of the day was an eagle 3 of the 2nd hole where we took my drive (about 300m) and I then put a 5iron to 6 inches which the guys let me tap in. Felt pretty good! -

Sounds great JK. I had my first hit out of the year yesterday. Distinctly underwhelming. Drove OK for the most part, approach shots a bit wayward but chipping and putting were bloody awful. Difficult conditions too with a strong, gusty wind all day.

No, I did not figure in the prizes.
-

Had our annual Masters Monday at Titirangi yesterday in trying conditions. Must have rained 10 or so times and no longer than for 10mins each time. Pretty farkin windy too,

Made the golf pretty hard, even for ambrose. Had a 5 under which got us second overall by 0.2 of a shot....fark!!! Did play that well though so surprised how close we got. I drove the ball really well and ended up taking 8 of the tee shots but none of us chipped or putt overly well so it was a bit frustrating really. Did ok I guess for the conditions.

Playing pretty good golf at the mo. Had a 75 last week in a local open tournament and took out 1st net for the low handicap division. 6 of my last 7 rounds have been counters so the handicap is coming down (albeit slowly) as a result. Supposed to play at Whitford Park this weekend but not sure if I'll make it yet.
-

Sweet. Got an invite for a corporate day at St George's (look it up - it's one of those oh so select Surrey golf clubs). But shee-it I need to get some practice in. On the face of it a free day's golf and feed etc but the reality is that I'd need to go up the night before, Mrs Cato would require an invite to same, hotel, dinner out, shopping for Mrs the C whilst I play golf. Net cost of "free" golf day? Probably about £500. However the real cost is that of having to be driven back to deepest, darkest Devon by Mrs Cato whilst only being partially pissed (me that is). This is the woman who has perfected the 37 point turn and the "no look" right turn at T junctions.

Fuck it. I'm not going now.
