It’s like a repressed memory but in a good way, not a Catholic Church molested me way, when these old shows are mentioned.

    List to date.

    A team
    Knight Rider
    Dukes of Hazzard
    Greatest American Hero
    Battlestar Galactica
    Buck Rogers
    Robin of Sherwood
    Magnum PI
    Rip Tide
    Simon and Simon
    The littlest Hobo
    The Incredible Hulk
    Air Wolf
    CHiPs
    Blake’s 7

Not exactly 80’s but a lot of re runs of Thunderbirds, Joe 90, Captain Scarlet.

Late 80’s you had comedy classics like
    Mr Bean
    Married with Children
    Black Adder
    Father Ted

Edit: Mods this post probably belongs in the tv thread (or perhaps it’s own classics tv thread?)

The PC World we live in makes this in particular so fucken good these days and even better than when I watched in the 90s. Bundys sexism and fatism must absolutely trigger the shit out of the far left some of whom find "Friends" offensive.....

Bundy did trigger people though 😂. I remember the show was AO in NZ and my parents in particular were appalled. I loved it. It smashed the mould of a typical sitcom which was that Full House/Growing Pains soppy crap.

@MN5 although Bundy didnt fit the usual male stereotype either...Peggy wanted a piece of him all the time, was always a chore for him!

Married with children was almost cancelled until a woman started a campaign to get it off the air because it was so offensive. That gave it a shit ton of publicity and ratings and stopped it being cancelled.
Legend has it the cast sent her flowers every Xmas.

I'm pretty sure Roseanne was initially gonna be cast as Peggy which woulda made the not wanting sex thing extremely understandable.

Also the Marcy actress was one of the writers so she obviously had a great sense of humour as some of Bundys put downs of her were legendary. Getting Jefferson in instead of Steve was genius too.

In the early episodes this wasn't the case, they developed it as an ongoing storyline later (maybe mid 1st season or even 2nd season).

Another awesome late 80s and 90s show was Red Dwarf. I always assumed the Lenny herny show Chef was an 80s show but wiki tells me it was the 90s.

There was a weird as fuck show called Sapphire and Steel around then. I think it was a bit ahead of its time

British show. Was very bizarre and low budget in the classic BBC style. Joanna Lumley and David McCallum. I used to enjoy it but didn't know what the hell I was watching

That was exactly what I thought

    alt text

All the guys were metals and all the chicks were gems. The beeb made great sci fi back then. Tom Baker's Dr Who and Blake's 7 were unmissable

Not made by BBC - was ITV's response to the popularity of Dr Who by pairing Ilya Kuryakin (McCullum - Man from UNCLE) and Purdey (Joanna Lumley - New Avengers).

Must be time for me to (again) mention Joanna Lumley opening her front door to me wearing only her chemise :face_with_stuck-out_tongue_winking_eye: 😈

Haven’t watched MWC for years but easily recall great moments like when Al’s car went over 1 million miles, coming home to catch Kelly with a guy and showing him the door (repeatedly banging his head into the door frame as he kept missing the opening)
Always showing Peggy’s mom off camera as some giant scary she-beast ( what was Peggy’s maiden name again?)
Married with children was certainly a pioneer show, when it came out people were used to shows like Cosby where it was a more loving supportive family.
Not the mess the Bundys were.

re:MWC, "...dayy old, dayyyy old. Uncle Henry eat a day old bread" was just about the funniest thing my 80's teen self had ever heard in his short dopey life. In fact moronically I STILL say it to myself around the kitchen.

some other 80's sitcoms i was rooting:

Get a life: Chris Elliot the bald paperboy? This show was godhead
Family Ties: this was pretty great for a while there, once you got past the saccarine shit to MJFox and his $$ shtick
Sledgehammer: the blonde cop guy? anyone else rememebr this one?
Moonlighting: loved this. they kept lookign at the camera and talkign to it
Garry Shandling Show so awesome. just mindbending shit.

Yup great show, from memory it was one of those comedies that was buried late on tv 2 growing up.
Back in the day where recording your favourite that was too late to watch live wasnt easy.

If I win enough money to have a classic car collection, a Ferrari 308 is first in there.

Because of Magnum PI? A Hyundai i30 is a faster car, that's what happened to performance.

Pretty much. I just love the way they look

T'was a thing of beauty, almost on a par with the 246 that preceded it.

    Edit: Here you go.

Both nice, but nothing on a 62 E type Jag.

    Six Million Dollar Man
    Original Macguyver
    Greatest American Hero
    Family Ties
    Growing Pains
    Who’s the Boss

    All compulsory viewing growing up

@MN5 think you should venture past Auckland one day bro, did you know there was a whole other island below Wellington too:?

Were plenty of hot chicks about in my teens, plenty of bimbos, plenty of slappers, just not all in the same person!

Used to like Remington Steele as well. 21 Jumpstreet was pretty good, just like 90210 it seemed perfectly normal to have actors far older than the characters they portrayed.

Near the end of the 80s I really enjoyed Tour of Duty, I guess it followed the success of Platoon?
