Hurricanes vs Crusaders

What a massive humiliator for the canes.
Good fucking job too. Don’t know why but I wanted Canterbury to smoke them.
Comedy press saying Crusaders are vulnerable.... more like they were wounded and had the fight to kill.
Comedy BB too. Can only play well if it is going for him, can’t do it tough. Fuck I miss Carter.

Worst game I’ve ever seen from BB. Of course swap the tens and let them experience the different forward packs I wonder if the form would reverse.
Canes forwards are dreck
That old chestnut.
The forward battle was closer that we thought it would be, it wasn't Ardie's anonomous effor or the Canres'forwards that made Beauden pass to the sideline or mess up kickoffs or kick to nothing or shovel the ball on slowly or throw telegraphed intercept passes.
Maybe he's not a good first-five under pressure?
-
Great to see our defence up and in and not passive like last week.
Support play and offloads back as well.
Way to break a little Caketin drought also.
-
@Canerbry Yeah I thought the canes forwards did OK, they won the scrums, mostly, and were not smashed back. But accuracy and connected-ness (is that a word) of the saders meant they (canes forwards) got no mileage go forward). And Beaudy was utterly clueless with what to do, apart from shovel it on or pass to a crusader. I've been pretty happy with BB up until last NH tour, this year, now I'm worried for the ABs. Mo'unga is flaky, has real shit games (see last week) and DMac is even worse. So BB is it by default. The ABs better have some tricks up their sleeves cos the powder can't be any drier!

Very well worked try Crusaders.
Mounga has schooled Beauden tonight.
That's the third straight Canes - Saders game in which both played, that Mo'unga has outplayed BB.
BB needs to up his game. Fortunately, there's still time, but come RWC time, he should be a lot better than he's now.

Lol... Mo’unga hasnt played since 3 weeks ago
-
@Kirwan said in Hurricanes vs Crusaders:
@Canerbry he doesn’t play this bad when he basically has the Cantab forward pack for the ABs, so we have a direct comparison.
I also said it was the worst game I’ve seen him play.
He doesn't play this bad? That's not a particularly high bar.

@Canerbry shit I'll take that back, you're right - I was conflating the shit 10 performance with him. But I stand by Mo'unga is still flaky, but he also can 'traditional 10' when required
-
Mo'unga didn't out-play Beaudy at all - because Mo'unga really didn't have to over-play his hand, and except for that clear-as-day-its-coming intercept Beaudy wasn't the Cane's biggest problem.
The Crusaders game plan went like this... "just make your tackles, because the Cane's will just keep fucking it up."
That was a shitty 80min of rugby. Just trash. Normally you'd assume a scoreline like that the Crusaders dominated the scrum & lineout, but Canes had the better (if it was even being refereed properly) yet they were all-round pants right across the park.
Crusaders won, because they were the smarter team. -

Cameron still manages to look shit with his team up 24 with a few minutes left. Cripes.
I hope they'll now pick Mitch Hunt on the bench again. Without being brilliant, he's so much better than Cameron.

And it's pretty big game, the sort of important game you'd expect a top-class player to at least turn up not least step up for, no?
@Machpants um, any examples of "flakyness"? Compared to, say, someone like, um, Beauden Barrett? Mo'ounga to me appears your classic "solid" first-five.
-
Crusaders really missing Franks and Moody....and Perry (and Crockett). Getting touched up at some scrums by the Canes. However, if we play them again, hopefully we'll have a bit more front row firepower. Razor needs to be looking for Owen Franks' replacement though - I'm not convinced it is Jager.
Liking the look of Ennor - he's got a bit of the Jack "rarely makes a mistake" Goodhue about him.
Scott Barrett should have just kept running for that try.
I'm extremely doubtful that Hansen will entrust the 10 jersey to the still rookie Mo'unga, but I wouldn't be panicking if he did.
AB second five remains a quandrary for me. Tonight showed that Laumape can be pretty well shut down by a good defence.
-
Difference between the two teams is the impact and decision making of the Canes forwards.
-
Outplayed, out coached, Saders back to business as usual. Tahs can feel very lucky they caught them last week.
Beauden has never been a natural 10, but he's made up for it by doing unbelievable things on the field. But his form has deserted him recently and he doesn't have a "basics" type of game to fall back on like Carter did. He will likely be better in the black shirt, but I don't think we make the most of his talents at 10. Give him space and a license to roam and he can break a game apart.
Good to see Mo'unga now playing some consistent footy, he will push hard for the AB 10 jersey. Though I have a bad feeling Hansen will stick to his guns and keep selecting Beauden at 10 instead of being open to shifting him to the back.

Yeah, BB probably starting at 10 in the big games, and Mo'unga getting the start against the lesser teams.

Scott Barrett should have just kept running for that try. Thought he would have sold the dummy, especially as he only had his brother to beat
