Former All Black great convicted of domestic violence
Former All Blacks prop Carl Hayman has reportedly been convicted of domestic assault in France.
At least he didn't blame it on the drink. But suspended sentence seems pretty light considering the details.

He was in an altercation with several players he was coaching at Pau back in January, cited as the reason why they fired him. Was it verbal or did he strike somebody there too? Bad year for him, sad story.

I think it's possible to form an decent opinion based on (a) a conviction by the justice system (b) a four month suspended prison sentence, and (c) his wife leaving him - having been "slapped" so hard that she needed three days off work:
An over-hyped prop and a nasty thug.
Hoping he can stay teetotal for his sake.

It's become a bit uncomfortable the regularity that Hansen/Ted will trot out the 'better people make better All Blacks' line and talking about culture change before the 2004 EOYT being the crux of everything. Sure, they did away with some of the remnants of amateurism and provincialism in making things like court sessions voluntary - but the actual results aren't too flattering?
That isn't to call anyone a shit bloke, at the end of the day it's a random collection of men with the same flaws as the broader community. But that is... maybe the 5th domestic violence charge for an AB either in the midst or shortly after their AB career since Ted/Hansen made the big cultural changes? That's without the incidents where patrons, seals and pie shop windows were harmed.
Good team, good processes - but they need to stop talking it up because it's approaching the Australian cricket team's "we are the keepers of where the line is" stuff.

@rotated to the best of my knowledge the NRL has never made claims that they help develop better people... they file that under their wishful thinking outcomes.

Do they really say that? The team which just welcomed back in a defrocked captain who cried, a 28 year old leader of what was once a noble entity, when he was caught out cheating? I hear they have rewarded the grubby master cheat too, the small fellow with a big gob, a gutter mouth and too little intelligence to offer an amusing sledge, who cannot cop a little bit for his corner.
I do hope they face South Africa soon and that the crowd gives the li'l fella plenty more about Sonny Bill porking madly away in a nightclub dunny. I loved watching his classic little big man cameo in the dressing room stairwell screeching at the South Africans "Hold me back, I'll belt him, I'll belt youse all, you just watch me ... I said hold me back!"
I will continue to fetch my news here, at a New Zealand rugby blog, about Australian cricket and the team which treats the dollars as applause. I have no interest in anything it or its spruikers say or do.

Thought his last test was the match that never happened in 2007 (checked and Wikipedia confirms). So 11.5 years ...
And no I would not likely comment on the Canberra Raiders.
Also, can you fill me in on the other domestic incidents? Savea and who else?

@rotated on history you'd say that's due to it being mission impossible for the NRL. Whereas on the whole I'd say most ABs would have shown, and personally acknowledged, positive growth as part of being involved. No initiative or goal like that is ever going to have perfect outcomes, but I've never felt the ABs have overstated it in the overall scheme of things.
