If we are in the final and playing anyone else other than the Boks, I’d happily have Jaco ref the test.

Not going to happen if there is a NH team involved.

*well at least not without a load of bullshit from Stephen Jones anyway

I am delighted Brendon Pickerill has been appointed to the touch judging panel. The SANZAR Referees Appointments Manager must surely now be obilged to appoint him soley as a touch judge for Super Rugby matches to give him the best possible preparation for his role in Japan. Co-incidently it will also save us from having to witness any further displays with the whistle under his control.

Owens and Jaco are by far my favourite refs. Nobody will ever get everything right in such a dynamic game both those two are really a cut above IMO.

Poite and Garces are the two most ridiculous refs to ever referee at the top level.

Jaco is too inconsistent for my liking. Varies wildly from game to game in terms of quality.

Owens and Barnes are my favourites, I just like their communication and their tendency to let the game flow.

    Referees (12):
    Wayne Barnes (England)
    Luke Pearce (England)
    Jérôme Garcès (France)
    Romain Poite (France)
    Pascal Gaüzère (France)
    Mathieu Raynal (France)
    Nigel Owens (Wales)
    Jaco Peyper (South Africa)
    Ben O’Keeffe (New Zealand)
    Paul Williams (New Zealand)
    Nic Berry (Australia)
    Angus Gardner (Australia)

That's a sobering list. How is it they're the best refs the world can produce?

I wasn't much of a fan of Jaco a few years back but more recently he's been very good IMO.

I do have to agree with that.
Trouble with Barnes is that he has always maintained an ability to regularly produce a game changing clanger out of his pocket. 98% accurate but man that 2% was a killer.
Other refs will make more errors but ones that get discarded in the post mortem.

This is what shits me. According to Hometown Jackson the decision was to take a bunch of young guys to the RWC to increase their experience and benefit the future of the reffing pool.
Is that really what we want at the game showcase event?
Barnes again is the poster boy for why this approach can have a downside. Taken to the RWC for experience, he certainly got it. But at a cost.

Even a decade later he can be relied upon for a clanger. One that has almost every observer questioning how he arrived at the decision he did. His communication is very good but his management of rucks leaves a lot to be desired. His understanding of forward passes is incomprehensible.

The idea you'd use the international showcase for rugby to provide experience to refs is unfathomable in its idiocy.

But who has been left out other than Jacko? And is the decision to exclude Jacko really that baffling? He does have a tendency to just put his whistle away for 10-20 minutes at a time while the game devolves into a free-for-all...

@barbarian think the baffling thing is some of those included with him being left out...sadly majority of reffing standards arent particularly good at present.
