@Bovidae My local Brewery, tho a few miles away, and I'm also a McLeod. Pizza also ROCKS!

Unfortunately the brewery itself wasn't open and I wasn't waiting around until 11:30 am so ended up walking up the road to the liquor store.

@taniwharugby Yes. I bought 6 different types of beer (2 bottles each).

    Great Migration
    Paradise
    Longboarder
    Traders
    Heathen
    Far North Chili Pils

I had previously tried Mussel Inn's Heat Rash chilli beer which has a full chilli in the bottle.

NZ rugby stadia really cater to the lowest denominator. When I went to Wembley for the football they had bars and restaurants along with the usual greasy fare. Same at the G. Catch up NZ!

I'm always game to try anything spicy and grow Carolina Reapers amongst other chillies.

@Stockcar86 just so you know, hop tea is a thing too

While hops may be a brewers best friend, they aren't just for brewing beer. In fact, one of the most popular uses is to make hop tea. Here's how you do it.

tried a few different beers (sadly mostly mainstream crap) this week, but one that was served at our hotel, Furphy Refreshing Ale stood out.

Nice drop, nice flavour, from the LIttle Creatures stable of drinks I think

Any NZ sour or saison recommendations?

I had a couple of bottles of Alligatoren Raspberry Sour from Matakana recently. Nice drop.

@Tim I had a Deep Creek Aloha on NYE. I'd just some fish n chips and it was very refreshing. Im a solid IPA guy too and wouldn't usually drink sours but I like it. Its guava & passionfruit based.

Like you, not really a sour beer guy but agree, that one from Deep Creek is pretty good.

My beer of the year for 2019 was/is the Deep Creek Haiku Double Hazy IPA. Full of flavour, great balance and mouth feel and hides the 8% ABV very well.

In my opinion, Deep Creek have been hitting it out of the park with their range of beers throughout 2019! Their entire HAZY IPA PROJECT lineup (http://www.dcbrewing.co.nz/beer/) Misty Miyagi, Zen, Sensei and Haiku are just brilliant. Their Totem - West Coast IPA Series is also pretty fu&cking fantastic!

What's been great for those of us in Sydney, can't speak for other parts of the big burning land, Deep Creek beers used to be very hard to find but are now showing up in Dan Murphy's and other mainstream bottle shops where as before, you had to go to the specialty craft beer shops to hunt them down.

I'm heading to Auckland for a short holiday (with my son who recently turned 18 and scored a 99.05 ATAR from the HSC) in mid Jan and the Deep Creek Brew Bar will be on my must visit list as I wasn't able to make it there on my last visit to NZ.

In terms of Kiwi craft beer, another place I love to visit in Auckland as I've been there a couple of times, is The Brewers Co-Operative - NZ Craft Beer and Fish and Chips. An ever changing line up of craft beer and the food there is really good. It's also close to Brothers Beer City Works Depot where the beer isn't that good, a bit disappointing really, but it's a pretty hip place and attracts a good crowd.

I do like that beer, but I am such a light weight now that I really prefer much lower strength. At least that way I can have more than 2 or 3 in an evening! But good for a one off 🙂

@RoninWC Im trying to get Sensei but it's not anywhere on the GC. My goto beer is DC Brewtiful Haze. I like Good George too but it's hard to get anything other than their IPA here.

Parrot Dog beers are showing up but it's just the base range. Really want some Keith but again no one stocks it.
