Top order batting this test like they’re still in a Lords ‘hangover’ perhaps.
Heard before the test a theory that CdG would play as the second seamer and to lengthen the batting. Southee did nothing wrong with the ball, but we might have welcomed Colin’s batting at #7 after all...

195/7 at stumps, early finish due to bad light so an early start tomorrow apparently. Lead of 177 thanks mostly to Watling, Latham, Nicholls and Southee. We're in with a chance now but if we can get a few more runs tomorrow, we're in with a reasonable chance.

261 /9
Reasonable lead.

That could easily be enough - though the pitch doesn't look like it's causing insurmountable problems!
I think we've got enough that this will be a tough chase in any conditions. But looking at how we went it's definitely not an unchasable target.

So while we've been distracted by the Bledisloe, the Sri Lankan openers have snuck along to 52 off 26 overs.
We’re in big trouble.

Somerville and Patel seem to have swapped economy rates from the first innings.

And by stumps, they're halfway there - and we're living on a prayer.
