A triangle doesnt tell a story.

My preferred flag tells a story about an emblem that is inherently New Zealand. It says to me New Zealand is proud of our environment as represented by that emblem. And that we live in a part of the world where we can view the Southern Cross.

I like it. It is not bland. It is not boring.

The teiangle does not tell anyone anything about New Zeaand. It says "triangle".

And yes Quo Vardis I know nothing about vexillology. But i know triangle is the least expressive option and moves me not one tiny bit.

Look, I like the design but the utter wankery online about the stories and meaning of Red Peak are puke inducing.

Your fern flag doesn't have the Southern cross.

Confirmed!

It used to have a fern in the Roundel but it was constantly confused with a feather so they changed it to a Kiwi

My Uncle was a Wing Commander - I remember visiting him at both Hobbie and Te Rapa (where he was CO0 in the 60's and they had the silver fern roundel. I think it was discontinued because it looked like a white feather. It was decided that a flightless bird would be more appropriate for the NZ Air Force 😉

The NZ Warbirds Beaver has the fern roundel although there is debate on whether it was painted correctly

I saw that photo last night when I was looking for the roundel and the debate around it .The city of auckland tag on the back is pretty cool. I wonder how common that sort of thing was?

I think most aircraft had names in those days. Having a look for old photos for the Beaver, it was painted to represent NZ6001 which was in service for the NZRAF in Antarctica. At some stage between 1956 and 1959 the Silverfern was added as early photos show a plain roundel. They rebadged it NZ6010 in 59 as it was discovered that the tag had also been used elsewhere.

This photo was allegedly taken just before the change and you can clearly see the fern as we would expect. It also looks like it was on a black background (could just be the photo)

The Warbirds Beaver also had the fern added after the original paint job and I suspect that it is correctly orientated on the port side. I will try and find out about it from from brother in law who is a shareholder and regularly flies it.
