Shitty unconvincing win we need to be a lot better then that to win the WC

No we donโ€™t. All we need to do is win the game. Who really cares how.

Doesn't matter how you win them at World Cup time, as long as you win them. Great stuff grinding out a crucial win.

    Maybe.

Equally, SA might be the second best team at the tournament and we have played well enough to beat them.

Oh, FFS that fluffybunny Kearns saying Garces was giving all the 50/50 calls to the All Blacks. Someone smash that smug prick in the face.

@ACT-Crusader Exactly. No need to get carried away with how we play on the big stage, as long as we win them.

There is a randomness that Garces brings and Iโ€™m pleased we dealt with it relatively well. No cards is a big tick for me.

Iโ€™ll take that even though it was a bit scrappy. Two massive revelations that give comfort the team showed they still have a 5th gear under pressure, against good opposition and the coaching team arenโ€™t totally out to lunch on strategy.

    TJP's tactical kicking wasn't great.

Iโ€™m really happy with that win. We only had to crack open the barrel of powder for 10 - 15 mins to get the job done. Need to save plenty for the knockouts.

In seriousness that was a really tough first up game, SA will be very hard to beat, theyโ€™re massive and can go the 80 even if their attack is not as potent as other sides.

A loss would have made the long break (12 days?) to our next game feel like forever. Can now sit back and enjoy all the other big teams go hammer and tong safe in the knowledge we got our tough game done.

Would love our 100th against the Boks to be the final. Best of luck to the SA posters on here for the rest of the cup.

@booboo flushing the dunny is from a shit performance, that was not shit, was not even average. It was good, awesome in places, they'll build like last time. Happy with that game, tested, not found wanting.

You won't see a better performance by any team in the opening round, I'd put money on that.

    Negative noo noos

Interest that most of the first games had second half drop offs. Conditions must be pretty difficult

    Short thoughts:

So much precision in the AB play - hardly any mistakes. Handling really impressive
    Crotty didn't go off injured
BB at 15 is lethal on counter-attack
AB defence was outstanding. Ritchie has serious wheels
Bridge and Reece or BFA & Reiko. Who'd be an opposition coach?

    SA 11 & 14 look real class
Kolisi is a good captain - kept his team together when it could have fallen apart

Like the way the ref let the game flow.

Thought it was a toss-up between Savea and Lienert-Brown - both in so many key moments on attack and defence

Savea a missed two one on one tackles on defence that lead to big springbok gains. Some good turnovers but not man of the match stuff for me.

Average performance against an average team. Better to peak at the knockout stages though. Have no idea why the NH scribes rate SA so highly. England and Ireland will cause us a lot more problems than the Boks. Hopefully Ireland beats Scotland tomorrow.
