English fans on twitter taking a cue from their guys and acting like they've won the Cup already.

It is my dearest wish they end up 4th.

Let them ignore how little rugby they actually played

If you weren't impressed then you're dreaming. England were excellent.

They were clinical in exploiting the aussie's mistakes, the first try was well taken after concerted pressure. Otherwise they were stoic in defence and the wobs fed them plenty of scoring chances

For me, the most infuriating thing about the game was Australia actually had some good performances on the park. When they got that try in the second half I thought this was it. But they let themselves down as a team, and their tactical naivety was embarassing

If you keep swapping your halves, how do they feel confident enough to run the show and make demands of others?

Take away the 14 points they gifted England and it's a closer game.

That's almost the AB game plan written out

That was very impressive from England, but you have got to wonder about the Australian tactics..I thought Genia and Leliafano's game management was very poor ...I think Oz rugby will be grateful to see the back of Cheika...He’s paid the price for not settling on his halves sooner and then he throws in a rookie centre ..and then to be so bloody minded when it comes to game plans..

Strange how the past comes back to you in graphic, lucid ways. In those moments between Beale telegraphing his pass and it sailing into Anthony Watson's arms, I thought of Lee Grant posting on here all excited after watching a 16 year old Kurtley Beale play. I remembered the posts.

It's the hope that kills you in life.

He's had a game plan? I haven't seen evidence of a coherent one in 4 years

The thing is Genia was very poor starting against Wales in pool play.

Cheika just rolls him out to start again.

Beale actually played well. The flying fijians were a threat. Just no framework to exploit their strengths. Where do the aussies go from here? I can't see them keeping Chieka, but who else is there? Will they go for nostalgia?

I hate how they carry on about trivial shit like they just lifted the fucking cup. Reminds me of Rob Andrew and his victory lap after drawing with us at twickers

Sorry for being percy pedantic but it's rather important if we're going to honestly acknowledge that england are indeed a bunch of dicks:

*3. England did a lap of honour after drawing with the All Blacks at Twickers in 1997

    A classic memory trickster.
The cringe-inducing celebration occurred at the previous test, a record home defeat by 25-8 at Old Trafford in Manchester. As the story/excuse goes, the "victory" lap was a PR exercise at a soccer ground in the northwest, where league rules over rugby.*

The critical part of that game was when Aussie closed the gap to 1 point, and then completely went off the boil and gave up 10 points in quick succession. Credit to England there, it was game on and they immediately responded and shut the door.

England are not the most talented team ever, particularly in the backs, but they're well coached and have a clear game plan that the whole team is buying into which is making them very effective; especially when it comes to closing out games.

That final score is a hiding in knockout rugby.

Sinckler try was the crucial play of the game. Aussie were right in it after their try but they let England in easily. Not sure who's fault it was.
