@Stargazer Yep. He said it didn't feel right for him to float around in three different coaching teams - so he's sticking with Jamie.

Wherever Jamie ends up, Tony's planning on going with him - unless it's Australia - he was very specific about that! 🙂

Other announcement on the Breakdown was that they will announce the Super squads next week.

So Brown isn't coming back to the Highlanders now?

Incidentally, maybe he should be part of a paternity test - Jeez he looks like Grant Fox!

He also said Joseph is back in New Zealand on Wednesday and he'll catch up with him then.

He was not 100 per cent certain Joseph would apply for the All Blacks job.

Brown's work as the Brave Blossoms' attack coach has enhanced his reputation and it was reported last week that both Foster and Robertson were keen to incorporate him into their coaching teams as they seek to become New Zealand head coach, with an appointment expected in the next year.

Brown will be back in Super Rugby next year, running the Highlanders' game plans and strategy, but he is obviously keen to get involved at All Blacks level.

"I still want to coach the All Blacks, whether that's now or in four years," he told Breakdown.

As a package deal, they are surely the front runners.

I think that this means we'll get Foster without the one person (Brown) everyone wanted to be a part of the AB coaching setup.

However, if Joseph can get a great, experienced defense coach, then it could be OK. Rennie will want to be a head coach, so I don't see him as that person, which means he'll coach Oz and will be dead to me.

TB said he would never coach Australia.

That’s AB credentials right there, jumps to the head of the queue.

Can someone make the case for Tony Brown for me? I understand he is a quality assistant and would love to see him in the set up. But is he really to the level where many seem to think he should be the kingmaker?

Seems a bit Mitchy - except with hair and seems like a top bloke.

Now the interest will be on who Foster and Robertson have in mind as alternatives to Brown. I've no idea but maybe Schmidt is an option.

I'd like to see Razor, just cause I want to see a little shake up and he is probably the most diverse.

Foster would obviously be a continuation of the current selections/tactics. Robertson would probably be the next closest.

I think every other candidate would make more significant changes.

What do you mean by most 'diverse'? Robertson would have the most narrow cv?

I was meaning the biggest change to what we currently have.
I just like to see some major changes, and I think Razor would be the one to do that.

I don't see why the head coaches need to confirm their team prior to being appointed themselves.

Whilst having preferences to work with a given team is good and gives a basis for NZR to make a decision I'd like to see them have the ability to mix and match the coaching team based on availability post head coach appointment.

To my mind it seems applying for the head coach seems to limit your ability to be appointed as an assistant. It seems we could rule out a lot of talent this way.

Further, how many assustants are you proposing be part of your team? Is everyone the same?

Who is to say the assistants are prepared to accept the pay and conditions on offer?

I hope they are not too rigid in the process.

Shame that Brown may have limited himself.

I would suggest that Jamie Joseph would list Scott McLeod as his defence coach, bringing back his Highlanders 2015 team. He would also likely bring in Clarke Dermody as a scrum coach.

I think it is a class move to lay his cards out on the table. I am sure he could have taken advantage of his position and used his leverage (why not, it works for our politicians right Winston?) but I respect the fact that he isn't keeping anyone dangling on the line
