@Nepia she wasn't even recognisable in the Roger Ailes mini-series.

Is that the Crowe one? Is it any good.

@Bovidae I'm torn, on the one hand there's my no watching trailers rule, on the other:

@Nepia @Bovidae Yeah Garfield is immensely punchable. Not a movie but a very good TV series he was in was the first series of Red Riding. Really worth trying to dig this out somehow and he was actually bloody good in it.

I love sled dogs, a couple of years ago I was at a mate of mines place for lunch. He's a fair bit older than me and he gave me this black and white photo of three guys and a bunch of sled dogs in snow and asked me who I thought the teenager in the picture was. Of course it was him, he'd scored a trip to Antarctica through the boys scouts and got to help run a dog team. At the wharf in Lyttleton they'd been told they couldn't leave unless they paid a $1500 bill for the dogs they hadn't been told about. It was in the 1960s and credit cards were all swiped over paper and the guy in charge of the dogs realised they'd be halfway to Antarctica before they figured out he ripped them off and happily pulled out his Amex .

Wow. Kirk Douglas celebrated his 103rd birthday today! Sure he overacted a bit in some movies, but when he nailed a role he nailed it (“Paths Of Glory”, “Seven Days in May”...) and he starred in one of my all-time fave movies “Ace in the Hole“ (aka “The Big Carnival”) (dir. Billy Wilder). If you haven’t seen, put it on your list. It’s about the news media, and it’s incredible.

This is good fun, too. Spike shows the original lobby card he got signed by Wilder and Douglas.

that last scene is pretty sweet where he does that low flyover, so low that it rips the roof off a house, but not so low that the bloke standing next to it feels more than a twitch in his leg

    Modern parenting baffles me.

You can actually control what your kids do. No way would I have put up with listening to endless kids songs while travelling in the car, let alone throwing them an iPad to keep themselves entertained.

    Back in my day.........

Back in my day the rule in the car was we got one side of a tape each. I had Michael Jackson/ACDC, Dad had Elvis and my sister had some bollocks like Tiffany or New Kids.

A quick google search reckons he does have a pilots licence and did fly planes for the movie but I assume they took cockpit footage from another plane and merged it with the fighter plane shell for the movie (Only military can fly current fighter planes). Either way it looks good and gives me wood as that movie was a highlight of my youth.

I read that he was in the cockpit, but it was a two seater with the actual pilot behind him.

Hmmm, I stopped watching at 3:09 with the plane on a stick:

That is not an A4 Skyhawk unless there has been something else called that since the RNZAF had them and they appeared in the first Topgun.

Too hard to believe that he knew what he was on about to go on watching after that.
