@Hooroo I used to love Pump Up The Volume, I was renting it often so dubbed a copy, leant it to my mate, he took it away in the school holidays to his bach and it never came back. Don't think I've seen it since then.

Always interesting to see peoples top lists, none of yours would dent my top 50 I think. I haven't even seen all the Harry Potters.

I'm not a movie aficionado like you are though so they would be a bit 'simpler'

Sheesh, I wasn't having a go at your list ... just remarking how we all like different stuff.

@mariner4life said in Re: Movie review thread...:

    also Nepia hates anything fun

The Godfather is pure unadulterated fun mother fucker.

I wasn't implying you were. I just understand that true movie buffs are going to have a more in depth appreciation for some movies that I wouldn't

I can't really think of a top 5 outside of the Godfather as number one for eternity, but Platoon was on it for a long time as it was my come home drunk and watch movie, then True Romance which replaced it in that role. So not too movie snobby.

@Nepia Pulp Fiction would be up there as one of my all time favourites, and I used to watch Swingers a lot

    The Matrix
    Raiders
    Star Wars
    Groundhog Day
and this spot has traditionally been Braveheart, but might be replaced by Zero Dark Thirty

Two of those would make my top 10 Mr Movie Buff. 😉

Those would have been on my list at various times over the past 20 years.

@Virgil Shouldn't the choice be between TPM and Rise of the Skywalkers now?

If we are basing our top 10 on films we happily watch again and again? Some films as good as they are just aren’t the type of film you watch over and over again

Star Wars ( doing a @Hooroo and lumping then together)

    Raiders

    Jaws

    LOTR

    Deadpool

    Logan

Anything with Jennifer Lawrence in it, probably Silver Linings Playbook

Super 8 ( touches the nostalgia with Speilberg films of the 80s.

I’m sure there’s more just can’t think of them at the moment.

I know people rate it, but every time I've gone to watch it, my attention has drifted off to something else.

Do you like other Tarantino films or were you meaning Swingers?

Ah right, I think it might be a film of its era, and if you try watching it outside of that time for a first time it might not work as well. It was cool in the 90s.

As a single guy at the time it struck a chord. John Favreau and Vince Vaughn before they were famous. So many iconic moments for me. But you might have to have been there

From the top of my head without a lot of thinking:

    Fight Club
    Forrest Gump
    Joker
    Braveheart
    Matrix

Doug Liman was the director too, I generally like most of his movies.

I consider this to be a Tarantino movie and it's the best of the lot.

The Usual Suspects would be in my top 5 but I'd have to think about the others.

When I first saw it, I hated it, now I love it. Better to watch being a bit older, I found.
