I can't really think of a top 5 outside of the Godfather as number one for eternity, but Platoon was on it for a long time as it was my come home drunk and watch movie, then True Romance which replaced it in that role. So not too movie snobby.
I consider this to be a Tarantino movie and it's the best of the lot.
The Usual Suspects would be in my top 5 but I'd have to think about the others.
It probably tops my Tarantino list if it's considered one of his films, but I think there's too much of Scott's direction in it to be solely considered a Tarantino film.

@Nepia Agree, but part of the Tarantino family of movies. Some of my favourite movies have been directed by Ridley or Tony Scott.
Yeah the Scott brothers have produced some good stuff, although, I know Ridley is the 'cooler' movie buff director to like, but I actually prefer Tony's stuff on the whole. I'm not a huge Aliens and Bladerunner fan so that dents Ridley a bit for me even though he's directed lots of films I really like - Blackhawk Down, Gladiator, The Martian, American Gangster, Black Rain etc.

@Bovidae I've never even heard of 12 Angry Men
It's weird that it rates so highly in that list. If there was a film from that general era I thought it would be Casablanca or Citizen Kane or a Hitchcock.
@Bovidae Agree on Scott-Denzil ... Man on Fire is a great nasty action film that predates the old man action films like Taken etc.

The Shawshank Redemption would be another in my top 5.
IMDb's top 20.
Obviously Point Break is such a superb film they didn’t want to embarrass those other films in comparison by putting it on that list. .

Obviously you are talking about the remake.
There is no remake

Back to the future and Shawshank are two movies I would never change the channel for.
Die hard 1 and 2, revenge of the nerds, the Martian, Taken, Bourne Identity probably in thst list too.
Die Hard has barely aged. Still a bolted on classic. I like them all, Bruce Willis is a boss

@canefan the Tony Danza one?
I saw that too. Not bad, but not memorable either.
Yeah. Jack Lemmon, George C Scott too. It felt like a play, I wonder if it was adapted? I think I switched onto it one day, a decent watch but I wouldn't do it again
