Coronavirus - Overall

@Siam not quite deserving, I could have frantically scrambled and made the last flight out tonight to avoid the 14 days, but I chose not to. Jusy too hard, too much effort to leave the family etc.
So I'm throwing my hat into the "let's wait and see what the happens" ring instead!

@chimoaus If the staff are sick, as much sick leave as they have balances for, possibly with a bit of their next entitlement in advance, and then annual leave if everyone agrees.
If it's a lack of work due to a major travel downturn, then sick leave doesn't apply, and it's whatever they agree - probably annual leave and then leave without pay, maybe a combination of the two. I'm sure the unions and Air NZ are working behind the scenes to come up with a plan that's adequate for the workers in the circumstances.
Since the government is the major shareholder in Air NZ, they could put in a cash injection if required for the shorter term, but if the business has to scale down dramatically for 2-3 years, it's probably redundancies and apologies.

How does AirNz survive something like this? How much sick leave do they pay all their staff if they have no passengers to fly?
They are already considering lay offs. I know an employee who worked through the SARS episode, she said it took them 2 years to recover

I wonder how sex workers will implement the social distancing? Might be time to buy shares in pornhub, going to be lots of people on their own with time to spare.
Per the guidance I saw its only for time periods of 15mins or more. So should be fine....

I am meant to be flying over to Sydney next month for a concert. I am fully expecting the concert to be cancelled as the band is scheduled to be touring SE Asia and Korea/Japan either side of the Aust dates. But, if by some chance, the gig is on I will still go and self-isolate on my return.

Good piece
I'm shocked a never Trumpet hates Trump and finds fault with his handling. Shocked I tells ya.... I am annoyed I read that, it is so incredibly dishonest.
People are the worst. On the news last.. In the same article they literally blamed Trump for overreacting at the same time as blaming for not taking it seriously enough. The media suck donkey balls.

This is all so fucked. I swear i have a constant headache just from banging my head against family and friends that isnt taking this seriously. Brothers travel agent is a fucking retard, they all seem to think 'the worst is over' 'it'll blow over tomorrow'. Optimism bias from living a life of luxury for too long. They've just arrived in London and gone to get a canadian flight for a few days time (agent can only authorise changing flight a few days in the future) and ticketing staff have said despite what the walking-vajayjay Trudeau might have said in the Guardian Canada is closing borders tomorrow. Their agent then booked them a flight via Dubei, for when you say?....fucken Tuesday! I do a basic google search and see UAE too are closing borders on Tuesday. They talk to ticketing staff who find out that is true and wonder why im getting info faster than they are.

Oh, the irony...
Mexico is considering closing its border to stop Americans bringing coronavirus into its country as US case count passes 2,000.
This would be a perfectly valid thing to do from a health perspective as in Mexico there have only been 16 confirmed cases and no deaths.

They should build a wall to at least keep those disease ridden Californians out too, pandemic or no pandemic!

@Rembrandt Yeah, I get that people aren't concerned about the virus itself, (I'm not to tell you the truth), but the politics surrounding it is crazy. Things literally change as you go with borders closing everywhere with the fear of being stranded in random countries as I was in the situation myself.
