Japan getting ahead of the game. Tight controls on different staples (masks, rice, hand soap, toilet paper, pasta, cup noodles) at the local supermarket.
Itâs coming and everyone knows it.
How have they avoided it up to this point?

@mariner4life We have effectively stopped physically accepting clients into our building. From Monday I think I will be working from home. But I think I could effectively work at the office without catching anything. Noone is allowed in my office. We all talk via phone now. The lunchroom is 2 at a time. We have almost contactless entry the building as well. I basically get in my car, straight into my office and the reverse on the way home.
To be honest I fucking love the ability to close off my office and not be bothered by anyone. It's better than having a home office. No noise, no kids playing xbox. No being tempted to rub one out in the middle of the day....Pornhub Premium is free afterall.
That is allowed in UK, which I do, but only twice a week. Amazing the unthinkers on Twitter claiming it shouldn't be allowed and that such selfishness is putting everyone at risk. Seem unable to grasp the overarching principle that 2m separation is fine.
Sooooo....
Rubbing one out twice a week and maintaining a 2m separation? Kudos, what restraint - I bet your co-workers are pleased. Still, watch out for the droplets eh.

Not sure. See this is disgusting, the guidelines are so unclear. The government needs to step in.

Some arseholes slashed the tyres of 6 ambulances in Kent the other day.
The local MP tweeted that she was breaking the strict rule of MPs to always be polite to non-politicians by calling them "miserable f**king scroats".
On the plus side, a local security firm immediately started providing free security for local ambulance stations.

@Victor-Meldrew yeah not quite on the same level but someone torched an Asda van out west too.

I'd heard plenty of rumours and seen selective vids and pics but I didn't think it was actually real. I wonder how much more might be uncovered?
Is it possible , despite what we've been told, that access to masks could be playing a significant role in the difference between the growth rates in Singapore/China/Taiwan/Japan and that of the rest of the world?
-
@Rembrandt I don't know about growth rates. I think there are lots of other factors, including assertiveness of governments, compliance of the public in each place, standard and scope of testing and strategies used to limit the spread.
But it must have a massive impact on the ability of hospitals (including our own) to function in the current environment when they don't have enough supplies of the requisite personal protective gear. If the hospitals can't do their job and keep their staff safe while they are doing it we are going to have huge problems. It is human nature to profiteer at times like this. Governments need to step in and block supplies of these products that are essential in the battle against covid19 from being sold to anyone other than public hospitals and other private facilities who are treating covid patients -

I'm having bad luck with TP. Needed toothpaste this morning so shot over to the Woolies metro near my place - lots of people wandering out with TP, I get in there to see the last 24 pack get taken.
Then had to buy a hard drive for work so went to the local JB hifi and then shot down to the Coles to see people wandering round with 18 packs of three ply ... get to the cage and they're all gone.
Discovered something this morning at my local Coles.
Was in the door at 5 past 8 and lo and behold they had loo paper!
Got myself an 8 pack! Woohoo!
Anyway, self service check out lady said that Tuesdays and Thursdays the 7-8 hour is for medical and emergency services personnel, whilst Mon Wed and Fri are the pensioners (old and disability).
Apparently the oldies and pensioners go full re-tahd and panic. Whereas the essential service peeps don't panic buy. They're basically educated and "normal" (my interpretaton).
Confirms what the Woolies check out chick told me on yesterday's unsuccessful loo paper hunt : Pensioners are the panic merchant's and keep coming back day after day for more.
Seems to me lack of education / common sense is a big contributor to the panic buying phenomenon.

I cannot fathom why somebody would do that. It would take some serious mental instability to think about doing that right now.
I'm a big believer in a No NHS list. I.e, you do things like above, you have no access to NHS, ever.

Amen to that
