Make no mistake, the grunts will show a shed load less compassion and education than the Police.
Good, by that point softly softly hasn't worked
Yep! More fool anyone who thinks their own freedom is more important than that of the collective.

@Hooroo I think he means restrictions for people coming in. Not sure they would go the 14 day route, but they might check for temps?
The UK is talking about testing kits that can be done in minutes, so that will be pretty effective at the border
My mate reckons the tests aren't always accurate. A person who has the early stage of the disease can return a negative test. So they will need more accurate testing if they expect to open the borders
NZ maybe saved a little bit here by being so far from anywhere? Early stages gets an extra 4 or so hours at least to develop...
It can be days apparently... this covid 19 is a nasty little beastie

I feel for butchers who stocked up after apparently being told they would be allowed to trade, then forced to close. But this is irresponsible

@canefan reading both the (fucken fantastic) butcher and the fruit & veg store in Eastbourne were forced to close, can't even do deliveries, which is pretty shit. 4 Square is there but failing that you have to go in Petone/Lower Hutt and mix with a lot more people.

I can't see the harm in online trading. I bought fish from Takitimu fisheries in HB they will courier it up. And my mate in karori says his local butcher and fruit shop are online deliveries

I usually don't pop into this area of the fern but in the current situation, I'm just looking for some semblance of community.
My personal situation is simple: I live in a Wellington boarding house/former backpacker with about 30 other residents, many of whom are retirees and over 65. It's certainly interesting living in such an environment. But if someone were to get sick, we're screwed. There are a lot of these places, more than you'd have thought, particularly in towns and cities where accommodation is expensive as all get out.
I would note that the older residents including myself are pretty much just getting on with things as much as we can, checking on those who might be doing it a little tougher. There are a couple of ex-servicemen here as well as a former ICTY investigator who was stationed in the Balkans in the 90s which has helped avoid hysteria and quashed a few of the I read it on Facebook/Twitter so it must be true.
Anyway just thought I'd check in.

Any more irresponsible than a supermarket? They're selling food ffs. How is that not essential?

You would think the more wider spread of food the better - to a limit.
If I need to stock up on ground beef, chicken and some steaks for the week better to just go to the butcher rather than the supermarket.

I went to Countdown last night (impulse was walking past and there were no queues and needed a few things)
Really impressed with how well it was set up. Yellow lines to keep you back from the counters x marks the spot on where to stand to get served and still observe 2 metres. Only I would guess about 50 people in the store. Same thing with x's at the checkouts. Good effort all round.
Plus it was chocker - no empty shelves at all. Plus 2 trucks waiting to get into the loading dock. Staff member saud the day had been really quiet. Guess the panic buying is over.
There were a lot of people out walking and jogging. I might normally see 4-5 when I go for my walk. Last night over 100.
Roads are noticeably quieter again this morning. I'm the only one logged on across our network. All the lazy buggers working from home have rolled over and gone back to sleep

What is funny is that in Sydney the only store I've seen take these kinds of precautions (also remembering we're not on full lockdown due I think mostly to the hairdressing lobby ) is JB Hifi. They have two security on the door with in and out lanes, and all their main thoroughfares are cleared. You know how normally it just looks like they throw everything in randomly and you haven't to bump past people and stuff normally. Then they have spacing and sanitiser at the checkout.
What's weird is that you know how JB Hifi's are supposed to super friendly, the staff where normal clothes so you can't tell who is who sometimes. The checkout staff at the Broadway store are the surliest I've ever seen. The floor staff are fine though.
