I think this is highly unfortunate. I would have thought that NWs workers would qualify for the employee's benefit?
I went to NW last night and made a point of thanking my checkout operator for what she was doing being at work, they didn't sign up to work that job in these conditions
Supermarkets haven't seen a loss of 30% of revenue, so don't qualify for the wage subsidies, and the sick leave subsidies was put on hold while they retool it to be for essential services only.
New World being owner-operated doesn't help - some will no doubt be doing more for staff than others.

so 63 new cases, 56 recovered, 9 in hospital.
1 in ICU.
1786 tests on average per day over last 7
Deaths and ICU levels still seem pretty low right?
I guess, with the majority of our cases being from returning travelers, a lot of them will be healthier and younger than average for the country as a whole
Apart from the oldies returning after being dumped off cruises.
-
think they have run our last 2 days of new cases together...
-
@taniwharugby Yes, all under the Foodstuffs umbrella (and On The Go as well), and only 1 store per operator.

The next major mark will be how things have progressed at the 2 week mark

Yep, just also reassuring to see low relates of hospitalization and serious illness relative to positive tests
I agree. The longer we stay flat the better. Wow this covid19 thing is making us all really good at reading graphs!

@Godder them, Pak'n'save and 4 Square are owner operated arent they, and I believe they can only own 1 store too.
I spent a couple of years at Foodstuffs Head Office, yes, it is a cooperative, and all the stores are owner operated, And yes, each owner can only own a single store

looking llike our first death due to be announdced...
Is that the Nelson case?
No, the man in Nelson is still in ICU.
The woman who died was in her 70s, from the West Coast. She died this morning at Grey Base Hospital in Greymouth. She had tested positive for the virus on Friday.

I read this in the newspaper but well worth reading from a doctor on the frontline.
-
Foodstuffs have come to the party.

Someone on Facebook made a very brutal yet valid point; Auckland Airport now has time to make lasting and overdue runway repairs.
If their contractors are allowed to work....

And the rest of the roads in NZ.. it’s not like they are being used at the moment, but I guess Fulton Hogan prefers to only work in peak roads at peak times....

They've just finished the work in Willis St, Wellington . On replacing the broken sewer. So that continued during lockdown. Sewage is an essential service.
If the end of 4 week lockdown is staged. Would hope construction (and our bloody recycling service, and butchers and grocers) are in first tranche to restart.

the pump in our water tank has decided not to work this morning, so I had to contact a supplier to come and look at it.
After speaking to him I had to send him a text confirming my name, address and the issue, he sent a text back with H & S process aorund what we can and cant do when he is on site, and had to confirm none of us were ill.
Be interesting to see what they try to charge though...
