@taniwharugby We've still got Instagram!
That’s for something else entirely. Haven’t you seen the Haawt thread?

I hope Boris pulls through. If he doesn't the effect on society in the UK (and globally) will be immense I'd have thought. A healthy-ish 55 year old succumbing to Coronavirus would put the fear of god into a great many people.
UK Ferners - what's the mood like over there? Be a very unsettling thing I'd have thought.
Mate, have you not been following the UK in the last few years? We don't even bat an eyelid when a PM disappears.
To be honest, not all that fussed here. He's in ICU but only been taken in (earlier than any normal patient) so that he's close to a ventilator if it is actually required - which it hasn't been so far.
Otherwise, everything continues on as it has been the last couple of weeks.

Boris now in intensive care.
The UK Prime Minister is fighting for his life this evening. Thoughts with his colleagues, his many friends and family. Hope he pulls through.
This virus can hit anyone. I hope people realise how serious the situation is now and follow the advice, wash their hands and stay at home.
He's not even on a ventilator at this stage is he?
It appears he is currently in a stable condition.
I think fighting for his life is a bit of a stretch at this stage
Yeah the wording is vague and of course now the various media are picking out bits of info. From those I trust it seems:
10% Covid patients in ICU don’t make it
80% have left ICU but not hospital
10% still in ICU
He’s conscious, talking and NOT on a ventilator. He IS on oxygen. It ain’t strong but I suspect he has gone into ICU earlier than others would have so there is no reason right now to fear the worst.
Update from an NHS Surgeon who we know - not specific to Boris, but what this really means.
The stats are somewhat worse than what I said. Survival rate from entering ICU with Covid is much lower than reported above. Around the 50-60% mark depending on what factors are taken into account (business of hospital, necessity of ICU etc). As Boris is not on a ventilator, then that puts him on the better side of the ledger. However, she assumes that there is a chance he will need, and hence has been put there JIC. It's likely that if he wasn't Boris, he wouldn't be in ICU, and with his age only being 55 and limited (public anyway) underlying health conditions means he's a strong candidate for getting through this.
The worst part though, is that we may or may not receive any real updates for two weeks. She said it's like a balance of the body fighting the virus and what they can do. Nobody is the same, that's why people over 100 have survived it and some people under 50 have not.

Mood seems calm, defiant and resolute as far as I can tell. But everyone is now keeping their distance.
Boris Johnson is most energetic guy in most rooms he walks in to so for him to go to an ICU is a sign he is extremely sick. It is a big shock for people working in the PM's office, about half of them have had Corona symptoms. Odds still in PM's favour for a full recovery.
Most concern is about reports of hospital staff getting sick. A 23-year old nursing assistant working in my local hospital's ICU dropped dead after a long shift at the weekend.
The staff working in ICU through all this are heroes.

That's not good PPE, more likely to create droplets than protect from them

From a Kiwi ICU nurse based in NYC.
Sounds pretty grim. I'd imagine the constant pressure and stress would be immense
Yeah, she's the sister of a good mates good mate, if that makes sense - close enough link for me to believe it given my mate does.

Not sure if this has been posted before but here is a real time waster for those interested in stats
Personally I ignore any case number comparison as testing regimes are very different. Deaths and deaths per populations/gdp are interesting though.
You can change data to compare various countries and see trend comparisons though which is fascinating.

@Crucial as I got the big @booboo when I posted a link to this last week, let me be the first to welcome you to the Club.
You don't seriously think I'm going through 148 pages to see if something has already been posted do you.
Besides the aging population here forgets stuff easily.
