NI WILL get reformed. Some general increases but even Tony Blair has pointed out that the only near term way out is to grow the economy, so entrepeneurs can't be spanked too hard?!
Don't you believe it. There's still a strong-ish cultural opposition in the UK against people making money and taking risks.
Just ask Jamie Oliver or the crap that gets thrown at James Dyson or JCB because they manufacture in Asia.
The media here plays a huge part. As they absolutely love to build up a persons profile / persona and them smash it down.
There is a still a strong appetite here to support entrepreneurship, perhaps more so for those that are out of the public eye. I certainly feel here that everybody has a shot at it, which is not the case in many other places. You stood zero chance of becoming extremely wealthy in Asia unless your family was already part of the money club.
I still remember when working at a US Bank there, we were trying to bring this kid into our business line and the head of the area saying no as he didn't have the right background. It was a non-sales role so relationships /network meant jack shit, whilst skills and worth ethic meant everything.
Perhaps for early entry into the big jobs that's still a ridiculously high factor in the UK, but not for progressive roles.
Amazing announcment, not picked up by mainstream press: https://www.londonstockexchange.com/exchange/news/market-news/market-news-detail/JDW/14506570.html

Coming after the porkies they spouted in their "38 Days that Lead to Disaster" article on Sunday (which was systematically taken apart by the government Press Office) the Times has been brutally exposed of late.
And that was before the scientist the Times said argued for an earlier lockdown in the SAGE meetings denied he was in favour of an early lockdown - and he wasn't at the meetings
Not surprised they went after Weatherspoon. He's an ardent Breexiteer while the Times is strongly Remain - at times to the point of deranged.

End ofThe MSM have pretty much lost the plot in this crisis and they seem to know it. Some of the questions from the likes of Peston & Channel 4 have been infantile & ridiculous. Thank fuck for the provincial newspapers who really do seem a cut above.
-
@Victor-Meldrew Peston has ridden on the wave of 2008 for 12 years now. He became the face of economics for dummies and has parlayed that into a somewhat pathetic career. He is desperate for some relevance these days.
The MSM reporting on this crisis though has veered from abject cheerleading to vacuous criticism, often from the same source. It's been the cause of many an argument in Cato Towers of late. I agree with @MiketheSnow they are c*nts.
-
Peston is the Bob Beckman of the 2000's. Like a broken watch he's 100% accurate every day.
-
@Victor-Meldrew I'd forgotten about that twat. Many thanks for reminding me.

Hold on -- he's FAMOUS as the partner of blonde ex-Spectator journo who had her thigh squeezed by BoJo at same time he was doing same to bimbo sitting at other side of him.

Assuming I have the correct BoJo sex-scandal/Menage a Trois, I once did some work for the second bimbo's husband at a major Insurance company.
He had a PhD in Astrophysics from Cambridge University and as a business manager was as thick as mince. Nice missus though.

Peston is a man so much in love with himself and his own schtick it is painful to watch.
Met Laura Kuennsberg a couple of times. By contrast she is very down to earth. Rugby fan.

She took a lot of shit from the Loony Left when Corbyn was Lab leader. Handled it well I thought. Comes accross as a tough dude-ess.

Watch this Peston interview masterpiece. Painful but strangely, hypnotically watchable

A preliminary study of 3,000 New Yorkers found that 13.9% tested positive for coronavirus antibodies, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Thursday. The revelation provides further evidence that the coronavirus spread earlier and infected more people than official tallies show.

Wasn't really sure where to put this.
Interesting to see that the things which have kept children and parents sane during the lockdown are:
Music
Art & Crafts
PE
Cooking (Home Ec)Subjects which are seen as second grade in school and which are all underfunded.

Human trials for the Oxford COVID-19 vaccine have started:
I'm our companies Pandemic Manager. Part of this role means I send out a Daily Report on developments globally. (Thanks Fern great source) Someone at work sent me this. Presumably relating to the trial.
My baby brother has been asked to do trials for Coronavirus testing on new drugs ). Each winter when his work is quiet he does a week or two being the guinea pig – god knows how he got into that but he gets paid when his work is quiet, so he’s been on their register for years. It’s usually not anything dangerous they inject him with. He normally gets about GBP1k to 1.5k for a few days to a week but he has been offered GBP4k to 4.5k for this one - they have to inject him with Corona. He says the strain used will be a very low one, and they take out certain things (I don’t know the technical terms), plus he is a good age 39, fit, no prior conditions and so on.
I hate him doing these trials but he says it’s not just the money now, he feels like he should do it, it’s getting to the stage there where it’s too close for comfort. He lives back at home with Mum is in her late 70s, my middle brother round corner they look after between them (is up and down with lung disease/mental illness) My home town is near xxxxx hospital, where it seems to be spreading rapidly. 2 of my personal friends now have it, and one 1 of my brothers close friends has it, and has been taken into hospital. My 2 friends both work at the local hospital and said it is chaotic, many patients just constantly moved around for space, wards full, facilities lacking, PPE lacking, training is lacking. And they are only at what management call the 1st (low) wave so manageable level - but they are expecting 6 waves. xxxx had mild symptoms but is getting worse. She says she doesn’t want to go into hospital as she feels she will come out in a body bag (it’s that bad) – and she works there.
