Anyone watched StartUp on Amazon? Does it get better than the first episode?
Great show
Stick with itOK. It's starting from a very low base...

What Mike said, it's brilliant. Ronald Dacey is a cracking character. Martin Freeman like you've never seen him before, plus yuppie Clay Morrow even enters the scene further down the line.
I could watch a whole lot of Alison Timlin too.

Yea I enjoyed startup, but boy was Izzy a fucking annoying character.

Homeland
The final episode of S8, and the final ever for the series. The general consensus is that the ending was perfect. Some seasons were better than others but I have enjoyed the ride and the main geopolitical threats of the last 2 seasons have been very topical for the time. -
@antipodean Perhaps because a lot of people expected Brody to be the main character when it was Carrie. Peter Quinn was the most interesting character on the show and he shone in those middle seasons.

I don't really think so, he was actually kept around a season too long as it was.

And tbh Carrie's character became immensely annoying anyway.

I think i got halfway through S3 before i got very bored
-
@mariner4life Lasting until S3 is a win for you!

had a look at a couple of series last night:
Breeders - Martin Short stars in this as they show the interesting times as a parent, first ep was hilarious.
Only just found this. Would have looked for it before if you had said Martin Freeman rather than Martin Short!
I thought it was some Amurican family thing with doesn't rock my boat. Instead it is fucking brilliant!Edit: just thought that the best description was a cross between Afterlife and Outnumbered.
On Neon in NZ

@Crucial Martin Freeman is short though...
Yea is good though.
Weak excuse for a major error
The opening scene sets the tone. Would have every parent ever cheering.

Finished watching S1 of Designated Survivor. Hmmmm. Was a long season (21 episodes) and really, really ran out of puff. It was trying to be a mash up of The West Wing and House of Cards and an FBI thriller/action movie and didn't quite make it. The storyline was building nicely in the first third of the season, then a major villain creating real suspense gets killed off in a ludicrously stupid way and it goes downhill after that. People getting shot every other episode, agents going off and doing their own thing, alone, multiple subplots...it got to the point where there was too much going on in each episode. The taking down of one of the major masterminds (the traitor in the White House) was a MASSIVE anti climax. Like they literally stopped him in a corridor and said he needed to accompany them. After a season of shootings and bombs and kidnappings with syringe drugs and computer hacks it was very meh.
Guess I'd give the first third of the season 7.5/10, the last two thirds 4/10.

Unorthodox
So I watched this after it was suggested to me by my Palestinian mate, but the way he explained it was as a documentary, it's not, it's a drama. It's about a women in the Hasidic Jewish community in NY and her attempt to leave. Only 4 episodes, pretty much a slow burner, pretty decent watch.@Mokey S1 of Designated Survivor was watchable, but it became completely unwatchable by the time S2 came round.

The Last Man On Earth
Having seen this occasionally while channel flicking SBS here in Oz, the snippets prompted me to do to their OnDemand service and start from Ep 1.
Fuck it is hard going, even at 22 minutes a pop. The main character is just such an unlikeable fluffybunny, and the cringe comedy of his rampant stupidity - which is the point - I am finding hard to abide.
To me, it feels like it is written in the style of Arrested Development which I know a lot of people love, but I struggled to get around because it uses that "awkward" humour aspect. It just isn't funny.
Yes, it's funny that the world's biggest dipshit survives the apocalypse, where better men perished. But we're halfway through Season 1 and I hope it improves. There is a long lineup of shit I could give my scattered attention to in iso.
