@taniwharugby Those both have about 2 seconds of music and then are silent for the rest the video for me. Is that what's supposed to happen?

Could do more to! 520-530ish. He's building his twitch audience and was going to attempt 510 and 520 if he reached the targets. Looked like he'd pulled that weight already. Too easy by half-Thor!

@MiketheSnow I hear a lot of lifters say they prefer barefoot as shoes muck up their balance and position of their spine etc as they're not flat.

Yeah I thought that too. I'm sure he could struggle his way to the kind of numbers you mention. Double overhand grip too which I found interesting.

Probably makes sense with straps - don't need to worry about slippage.

@NTA and he didn't even wrap his thumbs around the bar ffs - which is insane as gripping hard is a great trigger for the body to do work son!! Just using his fingers and the straps on a weight like that. Faaaark.

He was wearing the same gear as Eddie Hall - a suit and 8 loop strap thingies. Definitely will see him lift more at the next WSM comps - crazy to think he just picked up half a ton... even if he does weigh about 170kg himself!

Richard Hawthorne is pound-for-pound the Strongest Man in the World

Richard Hawthorne is pound-for-pound the Strongest Man in the World

At 5'3.5" and tipping the scales at 130 pounds, you wouldn't believe that 29-year-old Richard Hawthorne of St. Martin is a world-class powerlifter. After competing in a world powerlifting meet in August, Hawthorne won the title of "strongest man in the world."

The mountain would need to deadlift about 765kg to break even there.......

That's the same halfwitted argument as an ant is stronger than an elephant.

Well no, not at all cos they're both humans. I'm merely pointing out that it's easier to perform ridiculous feats of strength relative to ones bodyweight the lighter you are. The mountain would rep that guys max pretty comfortably.

it was a pretty tongue and cheek comment, deadlifting over 500kg is obscenely strong and an incredible effort.

Yes because they both have to conform to the cube-square law. Rich is clearly incredibly strong. The Mountain is stronger.

Of course he is, he just broke a record but that's not to take away from the fact a tiny guy performed a massive deadlift by any standards. Which some might argue is the more impressive feat.
