So I'd never actually seen Waterworld until tonight.
Admittedly it's only halfway through.
But wow.
Just wow.
I watched Waterworld again a few years back and thought it was OK. Not great, but not the dud some say.
I laugh every time Dennis Hopper says "Don't just stand there, kill something!".

@Machpants it was short lived you are both safe, I suspect its just Val Kilmer sweaty that did it
Judging from recent pics of Val I suspect he'd get sweaty walking from the couch to the cupboard to get some more chocolate biscuits.
Tiniest bit harsh
Anyway
He was hot in Willow too....

Two disappointing movies over the weekend
Sicario: Day of the Soldado
A shit follow up to a decent movie. This has nothing of what made the first one good. It's serious men "being forced" to do serious things. Except, you know, develop a coherent story that you might actually give any sort of a fuck about. And then try to cover up for that with excess blood. The end is ridiculous.
2 dead mexicans out of 5 dead mexicans.John Wick 3
The two great modern day action movies are John Wick, and Taken. Both suffer from a run of sequals that get progressively worse. And this was pretty bad. The first had heart, the 2nd had less heart, but some cool set pieces. This was basically like watching someone play a video game on YouTube. Set piece to set piece. The last bit was like watching you move through progressively harder minions to get to the boss battle.
The worst bit? Watching fucking Halle Berry move through clearing a room even easier than John, suddenly made him seem much less badass
2.5 dead mooks out of 5 wait, that guy is younger than Keanu, why is he calling him "my son"? -

I watched John Wick 3 myself last night and Sicario 2 last week. Both have been on Sky Movies so I have recorded some films that interested me. I saw both of these at the theatre and agree they aren't as good as the first movies from the series. Halle's dogs are fuckin' cool though.

@mariner4life I think I gave the same rating as you for Sicario 2 in this thead when I watched it, but I 'm pretty sure I would have said I thought that Sicario 1 was overrated and not a masterpiece as many make it out to be.
I did a back to back re-watch of them both earlier in the year and I've decided I actually prefer 2. I think the Blunt character just weighs down the first one and the second functions better as a pure action film, despite it, like 1 having pretentions of being a weighty drama.
I've also seen JW2 since then, just before JW3 came out and I rated it higher than when I first saw it too. Looks like I'm going to be rating Extraction higher in a years time.

i liked it, but wouldn't go close to rating it amazing. It was good, and i liked the moral ambiguity. I thought 2 failed even as an action movie, because it tried to be too serious.

Bridget Jones Baby
Boom. It sucked. Actually it didn’t need to really. The first 30 mins was full of the comedy that made the first one a decent enough flick.
But then it just got shit. Sort of a rom com, but not quite there. Zellweger swearing in a Brit accent always makes me laugh
3 didn’t get laid out of 5 after watching this so pissed offs.

@mariner4life ooo not seen John Wick but recorded it the other night. Happy with.

Watched Shawshank Redemption on Netflix last night. First time in around 20 or so years. Shit it's still a banger of a movie isn't it ?
What ever happened to Tim Robbins as an actor ? Morgan Freeman is brilliant as always and the collection of supporting "know their faces if not their names" type performers are great support too particularly the warden and head officer.
The movie is tense and bleak at times but the ending and twist is so worth it ( if a bit contrived and cheesy ). It works.

A 5 out of 5 movie for me. The ending gets me every time.
Me too particularly as I hadn't seen it in so long. Most other movies of it's calibre I view pretty regularly so it was almost like watching for the first time !
