This might seem mean, cos I dont know that person and thier circumstances, but if they are our hope for creating a vaccine, looking at the spelling and grammatical errors in that rant means we are doomed anyway!
As I have said earlier, on the surface, making returnees pay seems fair, but I cant see how it can be done fairly.
Where?
Where?Unfortunately that post was tl;dr...

New Zealand not fucking about
Very impressed with its immigration policy
Magnified by its virtual eradication of Covid

Someone has fucked up royally by not getting this signed off before they left.
this!!
Not sure how they were allowed to stay in NZ previously (coming and going too I expect) if they arent citizens or PR.
Problem is, this is now in the media, there cant be any relaxing or amending of rules just cos they are sports people, opening a mahussive can of worms!

Of course there can be. Look how many get off without convictions just cos they have promising sports careers.
George Moala should have been sent to jail as one such example.

@MN5 not really comparable IMO...but given the current climate, if they are giving special dispensation to sports people who are supposedly not entitled to return to NZ, to return to NZ, they are opening themselves up to a shit ton of, well shit.

It's an odd one, as these guys have lived in NZ for a number of years, and only left the country on behalf of their NZ employer in a deal organised between them and the sporting body that governs them. I wonder how far off being PR's they are?

Request for Information (RFI) - COVID-19 vaccine research, manufacture and supply
PHARMAC, on behalf of the New Zealand Government COVID-19 vaccine strategy task force, is seeking information regarding COVID-19 vaccine research, manufacture and supply, including supplier willingness to consider a range of different commercial scenarios for supply to New Zealand.

The way I read it was they're on a work visa, so normally no probs, but CoVID restrictions only allow citizens in.

Yeah but those that are let off often have it hanging over their heads. I guess not comparable in one sense but in saying that I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if they get some dispensation cos of their alleged ‘standing’

This chick can eat a bag of dicks
My sister would love to come home from Australia. My folks would love to go visit her. But it's a pandemic so nothing is as it was before. Stop fucking whinging
-
@canefan so many selfish self entitled fluffybunnies about these days...the world is stopping me from doing what I want.
You'd think with whats going on in the world, particularly Aussie now being so close, people would start to take notice and become a bit concerned, but no, lets whinge about not being able to take that trip to see family, plenty of others in the same boat fluffybunny, wind yer neck in
-
@canefan mmm
Sure her reasons for wanting to travel are flimsy, but there are always shades of grey.
Take me for example!
I'm going to fly back to Sydney on 29 Aug with my 3 kids (wife is currently in hotel quarantine in Sydney). They just need to get their lives back on track.
We booked ahead of the booking deadline (as soon as the cost was announced) and are hoping to not pay hotel costs in Oz given that, although Air NZ cancelling our original flights might mean we have to fight for that. We will see.
Once in OZ, there is a high likelihood that my mum will pass within 1-2 months of arrival. If I want to come back and be there for final days or the funeral, I'll have to fight to not pay NZ quarantine costs, along with fighting to get quarantine exemptions to even see her or attend the funeral.
Post the funeral, I'll be heading home to Australia. I imagine I'll also need to fight to not pay the costs of hotel quarantine at that end.
So when you add it up, I'm a kiwi bloke, living in Oz, that got stuck in NZ after visiting a sick relative. To get my kids home, be around for my mothers death/funeral, then return home, could wind up costing around $10k in hotel stays, with the flights to be loaded on top.
I'm not passing judgement on what's right or wrong in respect of charging for this. But don't be under any illusion that this isn't fucking with people's lives right now!
