@Kirwan yeah TR Jnr has realised that fairly early on too, as with most boys, loved dinosaurs, so loved JUrassic Park when he was 4 or 5, even my mother-in-laws partner asked him if he got scared of the movies, he looked at him like he was a moron and flatly replied: It's not real!
TR Jnr has watched Mad Max's, Kill Bill, Resovoir Dogs, Most of the Rambos, Terminator etc but I have always watched them with him, cos well who wouldnt, but also I get to watch them with him.

you guys reach that point where your kids just do your fucking head in?
Two boys, and they are just going all the time. And they are loud. Inappropriate. Squabble all the time. generally act like fuck heads. And i can't handle them at the moment. I have zero patience with them, so i go from zero to snap in a second.
and i say some shit i really shouldn't. but holy shit they just wind you up and wind you up
fuck i need a break.

Reminds me of Denis Leary: I know fuck is a bad word, but you're fucking making me say it

Look on the bright side. At least with that behaviour you can tell they are yours.

Na not my boys. They never fight, squabble, piss me off, do my head in, demand things, take the piss out of me, spin yarns to their mother about me or mess up my car. Ever.
You’re clearly doing something wrong.

It's 2020 fella, don't be too harsh on yourself. I'm seeing so many people who are stretched to breaking, and just have no resilience. I'd include myself in there too - I've got a much shorter fuse than usual, and thinner skin.
Go easy on yourself mate, but be honest with people around you if you're a grumpy bastard at the moment

yeah miss 11 (going on 18) moody, attitude...but form what I gather form talking to other dads (and hearing the cobnversations these girls have on social media*, they are all the f$cking same!)
then TR Jnr, good most of the time, but selfish little fluffybunny.
I ask him if he wants to go watch rugby, or go somewhere, with him and I, spends the whole time on his phone...last night he tells me I never want to hang out with him anymore!
Little punk, 100% wrong, he and I have always been close and did so much together, but last 6 months, he is growing up and wants little to do with me, except when it suits.
*Social media is a minefield for kids!! They send messages ot friends, they can see thier friend has seen it, but dont reply...I say, hey ring them and talk...but noooooo, couldnt possibly do that. Then there are all the catty remarks or the deliberate fishing for compliments that social media is for....
I know I will miss the fluffybunnies when they eventually leave, but man they drive you nuts!

Yeah my oldest loved Jurassic Park/World movies when he was 4/5 and had no issues telling they weren't real.
Interesting though is he recently watched the Polar Express - animated movie - and was buzzing out at it being animated. He last watched it when he was around 3 and he reckons he remembers thinking it was completely real (like live action), had no idea it was animated until he re-watched it.

Everyone's sample size is different. As much hell, as I went through with my girl it's nothing compared to what some of my friends have been through. I talking younger not teen years, in trouble with the cops etc.
@mariner4life it'll seem like they're the worst fucktards in the world at this point in time but I'm sure you know someone that never says "no" to their kids. They'll pay worse than you in the end when those kids grow up into entitled arseholes. Shouting at your kids every now and then is good for them.
Boisterous boys with caring parents usually come right. I wish my son was more that way inclined a lot of the time.

yeah, every so often...
I know they are good kids. They can just be so annoying! life's hard enough without having to constantly "parent"
-
@mariner4life we had parent teacher interviews a fortnight ago, on talking to the teachers, I dont think we were talking about the same kids that live at my place!
Apparently they are awesome at school, helpful, friendly, positive, not noisy smart mouthed, ungreatful knuckle draggers haha
-
the wife showed me a nice quote around that the other day
it was something along the lines that if your kid is great in public, and a shit at home, it means they have learned to be respectful, but feel loved enough to play up at home
i reckon i can cling to that

Ahhh, the Parenting thread. I think I might spend a little time here over the next few weeks...
We are 16 days into my solo parenting stint, and so far its gone pretty well. I've definitely yelled at them, called them ungrateful, been generally grumpy. And feel like a cnt straight afterwards.
Had lots of good times too. Have to keep reminding myself that 2020 is a fucking weird year for them too. A global pandemic, empty streets, policy presence, constant conversation about the dire economy etc, and for my kids, all this away from th familiarity of their own home, friends, school and activities.
I need to be softer
The thing I hate the most is when they're mean to or unsupportable of each other. But I also know its totally natural.
Starting a road trip over 4 days to Palmy, where we have 2 weeks, then its Sydney for 14 days of hotel quarantine. This will test us!
And hold your fucking jokes about how Palmy will be worse than quarantine, you're all so bloody predictable...
-
i do not envy that quarantine
-
@mariner4life yea my mum always used to say 'at least you buggars know how to behave at other peoples places' to me and my brother.
-
@mariner4life they seem to be putting kids into serviced apartments rather than hotel rooms at the moment so fingers crossed. Having a separate bedroom and a kitchen to cook in, and possibly even a balcony, will make a huge difference.
