Checked today graph of daily Covid deaths.
Absolutely no sign of any uptick.
Infection uptick has no real impact.
Must say the logic of six is beyond me.
Deaths are a lagging indicator, question is, how long is the lag? We’ve yet to find out I guess.
Rule of 6 is a finger in the air decision. I did hear that half the cabinet wanted 8 and the other 6. Rationale? Fuck knows. Probably valid in Bolton but not needed in Devon. Like @RL I’m pretty much over this shit. Just take precautions and don’t be s fluffybunny. Not difficult.

@Catogrande we've had beaut weather this week too, I did my food shop today and Sainsburys was so quiet yet the parks were full. I just wish more people would just use common sense and limit their going out and about.

@R-L Tesco was a fucking abomination today! Usually shop Friday morning. Saturday, never again.

Missus' place of work - Royal Mint Experience - has closed because of RCT local lockdown. 85% of visitors come from outside RCT.
She's taking a week off next week and we're heading to mid-Wales for 2 nights and Pembrokeshire for 3-nights because the word on the street is England will have a reset starting Tuesday.
Don't want to be forced to return from England, and Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford seems loathe to close all of Wales down. Especially when cases in the West are going down.
Significant parts of S Wales are now under local lockdown (Caerphilly and RCT) with Merthyr and Newport served notice.
Pissing everybody off because the only deaths in Wales since 27 August have been in N Wales.

Anyway, Whitty is doing an announcement at 11am today which I think is live on the Beeb.
It's very important to remember, that the daily numbers and what Whitty says are the only things that are FACTS. Everything else you read, will just be somebody else opinion on them, with that somebody having exactly the same qualifications as you with respect to viruses and how they behave.
-
Whitty & Vallance gave the UK an update on factual information. It was worthwhile watching & I thoroughly enjoyed turning off the TV as the media companies then went through what it all meant. I.e - what they think it means which will help their ratings.
Basically, the numbers are going up - there is no argument against this. More tests or not, the hit percentage rate is increasing. Started off in younger people and is now rises are commencing as we move up the age groups. They estimate that between 6-8% of people have had it, and are showing the antibodies. They showed a couple of charts with projected assumed nothing changes, which were a bit scary. Could be up to 50k cases per day if nothing changes by November, which translates to 200 deaths per day.
Going to be a heavy 6 months ahead, and we all must play our part.
EDIT: Because I am detrimental to myself at times, I had a quick twitter scan. Yep, media are showing varied updates showered with their own opinions which are extremely mixed. A lot of anger of no questions & no politicians.

Except the UK are modelling their actions on other European countries like France.
France has seen a massive increase in cases without a corresponding jump in deaths.

Why wouldn't you model it on European countries? Seems the smart thing to do, to me.
That is correct, but Whitty also stated that increase in deaths follow 4 weeks after increase in infections.

Agreed
Time will tell

@pakman sorry to throw such a big question at you... But why are the deaths so low? Do you know? Is it due to having facemasks now or younger people catching it? I feel like we are going to see them shoot high anytime soon.
Have been rather waylaid.
Plenty of possible reasons. Here's just four: many more young testing positive, but not vulnerable; medics know better how to treat; vulnerable being more careful; and there's also a view that exposure to covid-like viruses, such as cold, conveys resistence -- the implication being that many of the truly vulnerable were already culled in Spring.
Authorities extrapolating wildly, on the off chance that the fatality rate will pick up. Seems it hasn't elsewhere in Western Europe.

The $64,000 question is the fatality rate, which is VERY low at present.

UK goes up from Level 3 (virus out there, restrictions being removed) to Level 4 (virus in general transmission and growing exponentially).
Up to the devolved administrations to decide what to do now. COBR meeting tomorrow.
Apparently the levels are based on the Nando's Spice level chart.
