Lucky to live in Helensville, home to www.libertybrewing.co.nz and yes not only do they make good beer but Jo is a good fluffybunny and Christina is awesome.
Don't take my word for it though, if your ever driving Helensville way go and check out their tsp room -

Indeed. Some terrific drops if memory serves.
Definitely a first world problem but I hate going to NW ( other half lives about 150 metres from one ) and finding that the particular beer I want is sold out. Pisses me right off.

20 years ago I was living in Dunedin and my girlfriend's first flat was directly opposite Emerson's Brewery, during the year I changed flats and one of my flatmates used to work part time at Emerson's and when we had our flat warming party because he said he worked in the alcohol industry he could get us a good deal on a keg ( we were all students so money was always watched) anyway he got a keg of Emerson's some tangy fruity thing and I believe it is probably the only flat warming party where the keg which was free for all was in touched.
The next day my flat mate invited his work mates around to finish off the keg - including Richard Emerson and my memory serves me that like most beer once you've had a few you will drink anythingSo in summary - as students we paid more for a beer that no one at the party liked (other than my alcoholic flat mate) then the brewery staff essentially got to drink their own product at our expense 😂

@MN5 I avoided doing just that too Richard Emerson. Legend. But I was drunk so not appropriate
I find Emerson’s really average.
Not bad, but nothing stand out. Pretty bog standard
look, it is now. But he is a sensational brewer, great nose and sense for a good beer. At the time he opened the brewery, there was nothing quite like it in NZ.
Emersons Pilsner was a mssive gateway beer for me, so I have a bit soft spot for it.
Bird Dog, for years, was a tremendous hoppy IPA.
A bit like LIberty - none of the beers are poor or faulted - they just aren't as adventurous as other brewers.

How bout Mikes in Taranaki ? I’m fairly sure that was NZs first craft brewery

Emersons is owned by a big brewery now, so the pioneering spirit has long gone

Yeah I think Panhead got the balance right between mass market appeal and a couple of beers ( Rat Rod and Super Charger ) that people go fucken nuts for. Good on them ( even if their Scotch Ale was way too cold at Beervana )

Very mainstream these days, but I do like to hit up Young Henry's when I get to Sydney.

I tried a selection of beers from Laughing Bones last weekend. The Pale Ale was my favourite.
That selection looks absolutely terrific !
@Bones is this a side hustle ?

An Auckland pub is pouring a beer that will set you back $25 for a small 200ml glass, and beer experts say the price tag is more than justified.
Well they are hardly gonna say gonna say it's shit, dont buy it are they!
For Eats, this glass of beer is much better value for money than most average glasses of wine people pay for at restaurants: "People don't blink at paying $25 for a glass of decent wine at any given wine bar but for that price you're getting to experience something really special," he said.
Craft beer brewers and drinkers have long touted that line. If I wanted a glass of wine, I'd buy a glass of wine, but when I want a beer, it's usually hot, and I'm knocking half it back in the first go, not a fan of non-sessionable beers, so paying that much for a couple of mouthfuls aint gonna fly
Have gone off plenty of IPA's lately that seem far too hoppy now, but am liking HAZY IPA's and Pilsners, but in the heat at present, just as happy to smash a few Corona/Sol/Pure/Heine/Red or anything like that.
My fridge has Sol, Pure plus 2 half doz cans of Hazy's.

@taniwharugby I'd try it and enjoy it I reckon.
So different to a filthy export in summer after mowing the lawn
