Dry aged beef

@dK good video!thanks for posting
As an aside, best bargain at the supermarket in NZ is often “gravy beef”, which is the shank with the bone removed. For some reason they charge less than diced up leg “stewing” or “casserole “ beef yet is is way way better.

@Crucial we get hanger, pave, brisket, venison loin some marinated some plain - all pre-packaged from the same supplier. Can't remember who. Surprised you don't have the option in Welly.
Is it the stuff from 'Neat Meat' (Queenstown) - marketed as 'Harmony'?
I have seen a couple of things but usually just the marinated versions.
Friends of mine own that. The Neatmeat tomahawks are the ones that made me prefer the untrimmed versions.
Used to be able to buy online but I see that function has disappeared.
Had some Wagyu bavette from Neat Meat last night. So tender and tasty. Pretty cheap too. About $12 for a big cut.
Your friend is doing a good job. -

They don’t seem to do online but try one of the places others recommend
A quick google found this. https://www.gourmetdirect.co.nz/waitaha-wagyu/wagyu-flank-steak-450gm/
Possibly others as well

Anyone been to El Sizzling Chorizo in Ponsonby? I see they do dried aged beef specials on the weekends.
haven't been, but since we're on the 'el' train, El Humero in Takapuna does a slow cooked rib that is just sensational.
I haven't often eaten on the nroth shore, but would go back for that.

Went to the newly reopened Harbourside tonight. Ate fish, very mediocre and not cheap. Avoid. Crappy restaurant, great location.
Sounds consistent with my last visit
If you wanted a recommendation I could have saved you

@canefan Good atmosphere, awful food.
A couple of weeks ago I went to the O'Connell Street Bistro. Experience could not have been more different.
O'Connell St is nice. Azabu in Ponsonby, and its sister restaurant Ebisu in Britomart are excellent. I'm off to Phil's Kitchen in Kingsland, looking forward to it

@canefan come for a drink tonight. Am at De Brett's corner bar.
On kiddie duty mate. De Brett's is a solid choice. Old school. I don't go drinking in town much anymore but always enjoyed the Occidental
or pop aroudn the corner to Vulture's Lane. Great craft beer selection for beer nerds

Try Ostro. Good food and booze. Nice views. Very professional wait staff too.
We spend one night a month up there and always go there for Saturday lunch before checking in to hotel.
My favorite is fish market for Sunday lunch. A stack of good eateries with a good two piece band and fresh beer.
My sneak in and sneak out place is Gochu. Best hot wings in the country. Also good booze.

@Hooroo Thanks mate, will hit there for lunch tomorrow!
Might see you!! We are up tomorrow for the night. There is a new typical fusion place in Wynyard quarter called coconut I think. We will either go there or Ostro for lunch.
