Brexit Deal Done.
Coincidence the clueless Barnier was effectively sacked as negotiator by Ursula von der Leyen on Monday?

That Brexit finish line must have a very wide tape..

"Brexit: UK has 'crossed Brexit finish line', says Boris Johnson" Jan 2020. -
That was the Withdrawal Agreement which had been dragging on acrimoniously for years
There were a lot of people who thought it would take 5-10 years to get the Free Trade deal just agreed. Saner minds have prevailed.

A big Fuck you to a lot of people if you ask me.
Well played Boris. Everything you wanted achieved. All goodwill lost in your complete muddle of COVID but that’s life.
Respect, Sir.
Classic BoJo ending his trade deal speech : "Have a great Christmas, that's the good news from Brussels and now for the sprouts, I mean the press. Laura Keunsberg from the BBC...""

The best part ....
Saint “speaks for the working class” Owen, is now smashing the deal. Which he hasn’t read. Smashing Brexit. Which the working class effectively voted for and he’s the self proclaimed voice of. And smashing Labour. The only part which has more than zero members who have respect for him.
Totally exposed as a complete and utter fraud.
Such a great day.

No, you’ve got that wrong. He’s carved out great life as the victim / spokesperson for the have nots.
Not dumb at all. But exposed.

I'm going to keep an eye on Scotland.

No worries. And not surprising. I've never seen so much BS written about any subject as I have on Brexit.
From foaming at the mouth morons like Mark Francois to shadow cabinet ministers calling those who voted to leave "Nazis" it's been an unedifying spectacle and one, I suspect, many prominent individuals will look back in embarrassment.
-
@Victor-Meldrew Yes, very far from our finest hour on both sides.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/brexit-deal-done-whats-in-it-and-where-next-for-the-uk-and-eu/RYU62WQ526LGLIRU4AXGNZEG44/A key bit of background is Scotland get a far greater proportion of public spending than any other part of the UK. They'd lose between £3,000 - £5,000 per person per year if they became independent, would have to adopt the Euro if they joined the EU and 65% of all their trade (with the rest of the UK) would be subject to customs checks etc.

And you forgot the main issue .... Nicky thinks they stroll out of the UK and into the EU ... which means the EU could take blame for breaking up the UK.
Nobody in the EU is prepared to take that on ....

Neither will any country worried about separatists - particularly Spain.
As my Edinburgh-based friend Margaret says: "Too much Braveheart, not enough brains,"

I'm no expert on Brexit or the countless press/reports but my comment I was keeping an eye on Scotland seems to have been misinterpreted.
My understanding is that if Scotland breaks and then tries to join the EU it will raise serious problems for EU partners and especially countries like Spain (read: Catalonia) and ..there was another, I forget, was it Belgium/Flemish counties or Germany/Bavaria or..?
I have worked in an industry directly linked to major agreements, one of which allowed the UK to dominate in Europe-(that dominance and funding resource is now gone). Like many of you I have worked in England and have UK ancestry (partially) and relatives there but I still have a personal interest in the EU because it has had a major success that no one talks about (peace since WWII) and what is left for the UK is internal division, a confused border with Ireland (or has that been sorted) and courting by a group of rather large sharks far more ferocious than the EU in the art and war of trade deals.
So yes I'll keep an eye on Scotland (and I know about where the money goes and the squabbles over energy etc) and if I'd have time I'd keep an eye on the resources split..but I never said Scotland should or could leave the UK.
Politically, though, interesting times.
