Went to the pub yesterday and caught some of the afternoon session with a mate on the big screen. The inevitable "how many of each team would make an Anzac team" came up and the team we came up with over a few brews was as follows.

Latham ( neither nation has much depth in this position )
Warner ( if fit, no brainer )
    KW ( of course )
    Smith
Labuschagne ( this guys record is too good to ignore, only question is where he bats )
Rossco ( batting out of position but the only way to shoehorn him in )
    BJ
    Cummins
    Starc
    Hazelwood
    Lyon

All our pace bowlers are unlucky that the Aussie guys are just that little bit better. Could be a coin toss to see if Wagner gets in ahead of Starc. Boult and Southee, much as we love them, just aren't as good as Cummins and Hazelwood.

Still too early to make a call on Jamieson but if he's still playing like he is a year from now then he walks in.

Lyon has absolutely no competition from us in terms of another spinning option.

The batting order has a few guys out of position so some shuffling may be required. Nicholls would be next cab off the rank there.

    @MN5 Looks about right.

Wags over Starc if played in NZ. Opposite if in Oz.

Warner only gets in if a dickheads allowed policy.

Both sides interestingly enough have a couple of young potential all rounders with huge potential in Jamieson and Green. Too early to drop a Batsman, put Watling at six and pick one of them though.

On firm you couldn't pick Starc, though he'd love swinging conditions in NZ

Starc and Wags is the toughest pick I reckon. Either way you’re gonna end up with a champion bowler

Starc pushed it through at 148 the other day. Now that's some third goddamn seamer 🙂

Wags ranked 3rd, Starc 8th but has a better average. He also gets more use of a newer ball.

Southee 4th is interesting if you pay any attention to these things.

Wags ahead of Starc. Starc drifts in and out of the game relatively more, especially against the top order. Wags is more consistent.

Right now! RIGHT NOW based on how we have performed and only using data and eyes from the last series, Jamieson makes it easy. Anywhere! Aussie, NZ, Underwater or on the moon.

Yep, if we adopted the Aussie approach of an all-rounder at 6 and the keeper at 7, Jamieson nudges Taylor out.

Taylor is moving into the twilight of his international career on current form, but I'd then probably put him ahead of Loosebuschange - solely on the grounds that he's much less annoying at the crease.

Very hard to argue with that.

Yelling "NO RUN!!!!" when the ball has gone through to the keeper is in a class of its own.

Not the “best ever”, but players I have seen play live and that I like or too good to leave out (eg Warne and Gilchrist)

    Wright
    Boon
    Ponting
    Williamson
    M. Crowe
    S. Waugh
    Gilchrist
    Hadlee
    Lillee
    Warne
    Bond

If I want to win the test, Taylor carries drinks.

Does depend if selection criteria is form or career based.

On form he's a shoe in ,and Starc is not.

Everyone is quick to dismiss our bowlers, but Southee and Wagner more so than Boult have been in some red hot form over the last 12-24 months.

Someone with more skills than me should pull out the records for both BC's and OZ bowlers over the past 2 years...

Yeah, I think we really need to strongly favour form over the past, say, 12-18 months. So with that in mind it's pretty clear:

    Harris
    Warner
    Labushagne
    Smith
    Wade
Williamson (just scrapes in ahead of Travis Head)
    Paine
    Cummins
    Starc
    Lyon
    Hazlewood

So he does. I had the 26 and and 27 around the wrong way. Not much in it though and I would have Wags in my team.
