He may not have been at his best since his serious back injury and surgery in 2017, but IMO he's one of the best no. 8s we've ever had. A true All Blacks great and it has been a pleasure watching him play.

Thanks for all the great moments, Reado. Enjoy spending time with your family, and good luck for what's next.

Part of what in my opinion is the best ever All Black looseforward trio: Kaino, McCaw, Read- especially the 2010 version.

    And that's considering trios like Mourie, Shaw, Mex; Jones, Whetton, Shelford;

Quite comfortably my absolute favourite AB of recent times, what a player he was.

Always seemed to lift for the Boks and played some insane footy against them. Fantastic player. I don’t think he was a natural captain but had some good moments as the AB captain. Although he did get stitched up by a French ref....

    2013 he was incredible.

Definitely faded at the end, but at his best he was the best 8 we’ve had.

No need to compare him to anyone or talk about his decline. Just remember him for how awesome he was. A legend on and off the field.

    Thanks for everything Kieran 👊

That’s just jealousy speaking. To be fair it does make him look like a 19th century prizefighter or someone who should be riding a Penny Farthing.

I see Polite is now saying it was the wrong call at the end of the third 2017 Lions test.

"Many people called me after the game and told me, 'That was a mistake, but it was justice, the right decision to make'," Frenchman Poite told Rugby Pass.

"Even the World Rugby staff management gave me this call. But I said that I am paid to make a big decision at the end of the game. That was my concern."

    Gutless.

'I destroyed everything': Ref admits crucial mistake in All Blacks-Lions draw

And who exactly were these people who congratulated him and told him he made the right call?

Not gutless, just pressure in a decision. Probably remembered how other refs have been treated post match by WR in similar circumstances.
The worrying part is that he says WR told him it was justice if not correct. Astounding.

That sounds gutless to me. His instinct and knowledge made him make the correct decision that he then squibbed on. He's honest enough to admit it now. Just as if we're honest we did ourselves out of another Lions clean sweep.

WR needed the lions to be successful and ABs brought down a peg, so ‘justice’

I've said it before and I'll say it again. A significant part of my rugby fandom died that day on the back of that decision.

This only serves to justify that.

But I am, alas, just an NZ fan.

What the fuck is that statement?

It's fucking appalling is what it is.

The people that called him are morons. How can something be a mistake and the right decision?

And that is ignoring the corruption and cheating aspect by an international referee.

I'm with @MajorRage too. Wayne Barnes started my lack of faith in a sport that I still watch and can enjoy. Garces and Poite confirmed that I won't spend my money going around the world to watch anymore. Makes me both sad and bloody angry.
