Hurricanes vs Force

@taniwharugby neither, he’s way too reckless and sloppy on attack.
-
On the injury front Aumua and PUJ might not make the trip to Canberra but we should get Love back.

I'm watching a bit delayed but jeez that did not look good for Barrett.
He was in a very poor position to attempt a cleanout, and in fact had already lost the contact zone. No attempt to keep his feet. Contact to the head. How that wasn't at least a yellow, based on recent events... Jeez.
Did Ken Laban do any warm-up work on them opposition? Only seems to know about half the force players.
The head contact was minimal, and when the head is in that position how are you meant to avoid it, to suggest Kopeka had "won the contact zone" is absurd. Barrett was being penalised more for the force of the clean out than anything else.
In saying that I would have liked to have seen the high tackle that knocked out Aumua again, he was in la la land after that. No replays? Ref knew it wouldn't have been pretty.

Fuck Blackwell has tits for hands.
It’s hard for a lock to catch those low balls.
Shouldn’t be for someone like him

The head contact was minimal,
Direct contact - upper arm and shoulder - to the head/neck region. It was the first point of contact as well.
when the head is in that position how are you meant to avoid it,
Accept that you've lost the race to the ball and adjust your approach.
to suggest Kopeka had "won the contact zone" is absurd.
Koteka was in a dominant position over the ball and had won the "shoulder battle". Jordie's only option at that point was to try to roll him off it, but he was going in too low and therefore he was putting himself in a bad position to execute anything but the potential for foul play.
Here's McCaw explaining "shoulder battle" - I use this explanation whenever I'm bringing new players (esp. leaguies) through at training.
Barrett wasn't being malicious - I acknowledge he was trying to wrap based on his left arm going to Koteka's knee. But it was reckless and head contact. He got a significant amount of leeway on that decision when you compare it to recent calls around head contact.

IMHO off one viewing it was worthy of a yellow, perhaps mitigated by Aumua lowering his body position - worth noting Timani was getting fairly low as well. There was chest on shoulder but the arm was out and in a swinging action.
I was also surprised they didn't replay it while the lineout was forming. They had a shot of Barrett running back into position instead.

@nta Mitigating factor with cleaning out a jackaler is the head of said jackaler, is being put into the direct line of fire, voluntarily, 10cm off the ground. Rolling the opponent in that situation might work at some subbies level but no way was Barrett moving Koteka that way here.
And I'd maintain that primary contact (different from first contact) was the leg not head. Koteka would have been sore but not from contact to his melon.

Anyone else thought Aso looked fat? I kept wondering who the prop was only to realise it was him. Maybe that's why he hasn't featured much?

Random thoughts ...
- Canes have decent roster at hooker with Aumua No.2 and Riccitelli No.3 No.2
- Was quite pissed off early on with ref in the first 10-12 minutes, especially thet non call about the kick off being taken into touch.
- But refer point 1 immediately thereafter
- Jeremy Thrush reminds of that guy who is the freezing worker at Moerewa or the logging contractor from Ohaupo who skips pre-season training, and rocks up on the Tuesday before the first game, but is always going to be playing As, and is the heart and soul of the forward pack ...
- On that subject ... Reid Princep. I've come to like him. Hardest working mother fucker out there. But Super Rugby is a step too far. NPC is ihis ceiling.
- Wes Goosen, on a similar vein ... am a fan. But Super Rugby is his ceiling.
- Re Jordie's attempt at conversion. (2nd half) reminded me of Paul Thorburn in 87 RWC 3v4 playoff ... take it back as faaar as you can and smash it hard ... Jordie missed though ...
- Re Jordie' s shot to the head, reckon ref got that 100% right.
- Thought ruling out Thrush's try was harsh.
/end of random thoughts

Jordie's try was a thing of beauty

It was hilarious. Actual Harlem Globetrotters v Washington Generals stuff.

@cgrant maybe so, this team has plenty of room for improvement still though. I think how far we go in this comp really relies on getting selections right, i.e picking Savea at 7, not 8 and picking IWL instead of Blackwell etc.
Getting Love and possibly Perenara back will also up our performance.

The Force attack made the Canes defence look good. There were still some half-breaks but the scramble was better than the line D.
As Miotti knocked over the second penalty, I was thinking "yep great now a breakout try will be converted and you won't see the lead again".
In steps Aumua and a poor lineout throw.

You can see the huge potential of Jordy Barrett at test level but the stress levels in a really tight test match with 5 minutes to go where the next f#%k up is going to cost the game.....you just know what is going to happen......

Can't find it in the thread but did we ever resolve the Force player catching a kick with one foot in and one foot out of touch?
Jordie, who seems quite cogent on the inner workings of the laws was vociferous in his claims that an old law had been taken as current.
Now, ever since it was deemed acceptable to run onto the field from the carpark, or drop your hotdog you just bought from the kiosk, run down the stadium stairs and leap over the hoardings and touchline to swat an outbound kick back into the field of play, I don't know the touchline laws anymore.
So what's up with one foot in, one foot out law in 2021?
Another refereeing cock up to match the law makers touchline cock ups of the last decade?I'm totally flummoxed by how the fish heads have made an abortion out of the rudimentary concept of "field of play" in the professional era.🤬
