@siam Overall, I like having a spinner - they are often necessary.

But, it is definitely our weakest link and in tests I'm not sure Mitch's batting warrants playing him ahead of Ajaz.

England's stats bloke being interviewed. The increased accuracy of umpiring decisions since the 80s has changed the way batsmen play. 70 or 80 percent of test openers (everywhere except India and lesserly, Pakistan) are lefties now. Mostly due to the pitched outside leg video. The left handers were getting sawn off and drs has levelled the playing field.
Now they're thriving against fast bowling.

First class bats actually face fast left armers better than test players. All to do with pre-empting the movement to the ball, a requirement in tests. FC players can watch the ball and react. Testies build up a larger repertoire against right armers and can't rely on those trained and instinctive movements they've faced more often against right handers. They don't have time to adequately watch the ball and react.

Since covered pitches, batting 1st is less successful than 2nd. Also, with less draws and quicker run rates the team batting second are statistically in a better position to force a win. The old adage is outdated.

    Quite Interesting.

Fella is Nathan Leamon, his book is called batting against the spin

@chris-b yeah, agree. I think they value satnavs frugality over Jazzes jaffas. I like watching Ajaz, but his runs per over is a concern.

If spin is decisive in the big game, we are truly fucked!

Southee survives a dropped catch from Broad.

The young fella could’ve had his 5th wicket right there.

Conway, 15 more for the double!

Extras the fourth highest contributor of the innings on 22. One run behind Tom Latham.

Apparently Stuart Broad keeps a list of who drops catches off his bowling. His drop has now denied Robinson a Lords 5er on debut.

    Broad to Wagner, SIX runs

Stuart's list - "Some fucker in a red hat in the crowd".

Takes 12 balls for Wagner to surpass the efforts of all five batsmen who immediately preceded him.

Always mixed emotions when the number 11 scores a couple of runs. Good, because it ups the score; Bad, because it means the pitch is easy and the only reason for the collapse is shit batting & hence, the opposition openers should have a field day.
