smith and renton into the starting line up, lentjes to the bench, guessing we're looking at defense in the first half and speeding things up late

this has to be the longest run of more or less the same starting XV for ages, only changes seem to be rests (moved to bench)

It’s been quite a comeback for Renton, he’s suffered a ton of injuries, some off the field trauma, being dumped by the Canes (and possibly the Magpies), and has managed to fight his way back into being a valued member of a Super squad. He also had some injury luck go his way To with his call up as an injury replacement.

    😲

The game will be veteran hooker, Liam Coltman's, 128th cap making him the most capped hooker in Highlanders history surpassing Anton Oliver.

If only he could throw straight.

first and foremost get the win, going unbeaten is something something in itself, missing the final on point differential or bonus points in this messed up comp is hardly a surprise, secure the win then try and open thing up

From the outset I thought this would be a tricky one. Home at that Tweed wearing shit hole ( loved crucial's hat in the car reference), and the Brumbies working out what's required to compete with nz teams after a month. Focus on the process of winning and let the other outcomes fall as they may.

@bones he's kind of weird, only 25 (looks older) and already played for cane, landers, HB, Canterbury and Ta$man, he seems to have the skills to be a regular for most teams

think you're right, playing one of the AU finalists in the last round and needing a bonus point win is tough

some stats that make me hopeful again

also going to add im stoked our coaches have finally listened to me and given Sio a run of games on the wing, hasn't lit the world on fire or anything but i think he always just looked more comfortable on the wing, doesn't have the ball skills or vision for midfield and his rush defense is a liability. given some space and few other options he's shown a couple of good signs, worst critique is he'll almost always cut back infield which makes him predictable but at least hes running back to his support

This is all if they're going to insist on starting him, would also be happy to have an out and out winger

Renton's one and only game for the Hurricanes was quite a funny one. He came into the squad quite unexpectedly because Callum Gibbins got injured. He came off the bench in the 58th minute. Not sure who the captain was in that game, because the Canes didn't field their strongest team (they played the Cheetahs), but when he left the field, the players weren't quite sure who would take over the captaincy. When the ref asked for the captain, they all looked at each other and suddenly someone pointed his finger at Renton. So there he was, in this first Super Rugby game, captaining the team for the rest of the game. They won 61 - 7.

Oh hello Mr Pedant! You didn’t happen to have a large purple umbrella at the 1996 Athletic Parj test by any chance? 😉
