Good call by NZ to wait on the XI though. I'm leaning toward neither spinner or allrounder but an extra bat now.

Sure looks that way. We go full out batting with Young or will gamble on CDG (who might wobble it around in those conditions as a bowling option). Doesn't sound like Ajaz or Mitch would add too much bowling wise. Mitch with the bat obviously but Young is a specialist bat.

I don't like the idea of sharing the trophy. I want to win the damn thing. Go in balls and all. That means bat big (and once or slightly more) or we smoke them with a ball moving around given that it is likely to be a very disrupted match and shortened as well.

The coin toss will likely decide it, which is a shame.

Santner is sitting in MIQ back in NZ. Not an option at all.

WTF? Why was that aimed at me? I never mentioned Santner? Nor do I want him there.

Who did you mean by 'Mitch'? Mitchell?

Yes. The one that is still in the squad.

Which one still in the squad? Daryl Mitchell is back in NZ as well.

My bad then. I thought that he was still there.

    We could just call anyone not required 'Mitch' and be done with it ;

I can live with that. Is there any chance of cricket tonight?

I believe so. At some time.

The weather forecast for day two of the WTC final between India and New Zealand looks slightly more promising than day one.

"Saturday 19th looks largely dry for Southampton," said a spokesperson for the UK Met department. "But there is a strong signal for heavy rain on Sunday and Monday. The rain won’t be continuous, but most areas will probably see heavy rain at times during the two days."

Just found some talk that India can and might change their team and swap a spinner for a bat.

@crucial Team isn't final until 30 minutes before the toss, so even if announced, it can be changed.

The rule should be changed so that the team is named after the toss. That would make it less of an advantage to win the toss.

I like that. Much less of a lottery.

No sneaky early start to make up time?

Gotta savour every ball me thinks

You might not be able to win a test match in 3 days but you sure as fuck can lose one in 30 minutes!

    (well certainly 60πŸ™‚)

Good start. Bowlers have to perform though. Days 5 and 6 look real dodgy so we need to run through them asap.

Right call with CDG over Patel. Going with 4 seamers would have been ballsy, probably the right move to pick an allrounder. CDG better score some runs though.

If the weather had not develpped as it had, I would have still gone with Patel, but...losing the first day to steady rain means the pitch shouldn't turn anywhere near as much as it would normally (BTW - the Rosebowl pitch may be the most spinner-friendly pitch in England, but that's not actually that much - remember most FC cricket now is played in May not this late in June so the vast majority of pitches are underprepared seamers that assist the Bowlers - sort of like the old way we prepared pitches in NZ before we went to the Paramahoe soil as the default pitch makeup

Well, we've had better preparation than India and have won the toss, so we can't have too many excuses - apart from the weather.

Happy with the team - on paper it's a strong batting line-up and we've got guys who can hold a bat in the tail.

    We don't have a spinner - sobeit!
