@rapido they have changed (or about to change) the booking system so that it remembers you and you have to do a Captcha to stymie the bots.
Jesus wept. Someone in NZ government IT finally learnt about cookies and captcha. Talk about potential CIO!

didn't that article that someone posted about this (may have even been me ) imply that the bots were getting past that? I may misremember that

No, apparently the captchas aren't bot-proof, that was the evidence used I believe (that a human can't get past them that quickly).

So, does anybody on TSF have any sort of good oil on when things may actually change?
mate, was talking about this earlier today. I don't think it's going to change soon, definitely not this year, and possibly not next.
if you need to get into NZ, the big issue with your trip is not just the timing, but actually getting an MIQ slot . People are stuck overseas and can't get back to NZ. It's nuts.
good luck, it's a tough plcae to be. Kia kaha
I check MIQ every single day. Have never seen a slot available.
My cousin's father died last week.
She paid someone $500 to monitor MIQ open slots 24/7 to get her a place. -
on the mass vaccine front.
disappoint start.
Slow uptake for NZ's first mass Covid vaccination event
Less than a quarter of those sent initial invitations to the country's first mass Covid-19 vaccination event booked a slot.
Health officials have had to scramble to find 12,000 more people so it can go ahead on Friday.
The three-day event starts on Friday at the Vodafone Events Centre in Manukau, with an aim to vaccinate at least 15,500 people.
It was supposed to be limited to Manukau Institute of Technology students and their families to stop it being overrun with vaccine hopefuls - but that did not turn out to be a problem.t 12,500 students and teachers were sent invitations and told their families could book too.
Only about 3000 booked a place.
Auckland's district health boards said they then widened the invitation to 82,000 Māori and Pacific people, but they still did not get enough bookings.
They eventually sent a total of 140,000 invitations before they had the numbers they needed.
The head of the rollout for the DHBs, Alex Pimm, said his teams would work with the community to understand why the take-up was so slow.
"I think it is always disappointing when something that you've planned for doesn't get the response that you were hoping for. I think it is an opportunity to learn about how we run these events for New Zealand in the future," he said.
He did not think said the initial low turnout was a concern for the country's wider rollout, which was due to ramp up from tomorrow.
MIT was chosen because the officials hoped young Māori and Pacific students would encourage their families to get vaccinated, with South Auckland a higher- risk area.
South Auckland general practitioner Dr Api Talemaitoga said the mass rollout was a great initiative but Friday's event lacked Māori and Pasifika input.
The invitation was boring for event-loving South Aucklanders, he said.
"I think the organisers should have thought about making it a celebration or an event that is like a festival where people come along with their friends, can listen to a bit of music, or watch a bit of entertainment or dancing. Have a bit of food and then get vaccinated."
Talemaitoga said restricting vaccination access to a particular date and time was not practical for some families.
"It's over a weekend. They'll have to take kids to rugby. There's only one car in the family, so it'll be when that is available, so they can't actually make an appointment because they don't know when the car will be free, so we need to make it available for people to be able to walk in," he said.
More should be done to get GP practices online quicker as many people wouldn't be willing to get it anywhere else, he said.
MIT student council president Micah Sili said the relatively small take up could be because the announcement came out during semester breaks.

problem as I see it, is there is a decent chunk of people in NZ who are scared shitless of this virus getting loose in NZ, therefore giving the Govt alot of rope.
Some I talk to would be happy to shut our borders and sit tight until things calm down, some say we need to open up and wing it, while it seems more are coming to the realisation we need to find a way to live with this in our community.
I dont fear for myself if shit goes down, but I worry about the impact on my clients, which will get me long term (although thats probably something I need to learn to deal with, as I was awake at 4am on Sunday listening to the heaviest rain I can remember pounding on my roof, worrying about how that will affect my work)

She paid someone $500 to monitor MIQ open slots 24/7 to get her a place. That's a fucking scandal given that it costs (I think) $3000 for the MIQ spot. I don't know how or why our government thinks that's OK. So, about a total of $5000 to go home? New Zealand is getting very un-Kiwi.

I have had my first jab and will have the 2nd one in two months - hopefully Taiwan will allow mix and match of vaccines and let me have Pfizer for the 2nd one. Anyway, as far as I can see, me getting back to NZ depends on the speed of NZ's vaccination rate. So even if I am fully vaccinated, I will still have to be in quarantine until NZ is deemed protected enough.

You'll probably end up needed two Pfizers I think (that was situation for someone I know here). Edit : Hope not btw!

The big news stories that came out a couple of weeks ago, about some software being able to give you an advantage... wasn't a bot.
I looked into it for a friend - who realised that it was probably "unfair" - but getting pretty desperate herself to visit family.
It was just a java-script browser plug-in, which would refresh the MIQ page constantly - and if there was ever a slot that came available in the month you chose - alert you via an alarm, and pre-populate some of the fields.
You still had to be near your computer, to then select the actual date (and maybe... a captcha?), and complete the process. And the developer described the average window you had to do this before the slots are grabbed up - as 10 seconds. -

That is the reality mate. And we aren't moving at break neck speed for whatever reason

No. We had to have Astra Zeneca for the first dose over here in Taiwan.

Sorry, my point was that here you had to have two of the same vaccine, so we had a person come over who had got one AZ but they then needed to get two Pfizer’s (or Modernas, cant remember). In other words, can you get your second AZ?

@gt12
Thanks for letting me know.
Can you link me this story please? I might have to tell other foreigners over here.Only told about it by the person at work, who had to get the same one twice to get her certificate.
It could also be that because she got the first one overseas she needed to get two here in Japan?
So, sorry, only grapevine, and as you’ll get both locally they may allow you to mix and match.

This is what NZ's velocity looked like in an international comparison (The Economist, measuring % for over 12s)
This is not updated with today's data, will be interesting to look tomorrow to see if 4% of the country getting a jab (combined first and second jabs) in the last 7 days makes that line actually curve up. (Although this graph tracks only first jab)

@majorrage see, your major problem is you are not a professional rugby team. Being one of those is the easiest way to jump a border queue in Australasia
because our "caring" governments who only care about the "well-being and safety of their constituents" will absolutely make financial decisions if there are votes in it.
Or a Wiggle, become one of them and you’ll get over easy as.
