@donsteppa What was her story? It sounds like she qualified but didn't get selected, is that the case?

Google isn't being very helpful at the moment so I'll tag in @WillieTheWaiter who will know the cycling selections much better than me?

@victor-meldrew Philip Sherry was a nice / classy guy, I met him some decades ago when he was interested in buying our house.

Greg Rowlands; Bay centurion and All Black

    alt text

People are mourning the passing of a man who has been described as well-loved and well respected in the Tauranga community.

The Bay of Plenty Rugby Union announced the passing of former All Black and Steamers player Greg Rowlands on Sunday.

“It is with a heavy heart we inform the passing of former Bay of Plenty fullback Greg Rowlands,” reads the post on Facebook.

“Greg played 161 games for the Bay from 1969–1981 and played four matches for the All Blacks, on their 1976 tour of South America.

“Greg will be sorely missed by all of us in the Bay of Plenty community.

“Sending our love Brent and the Rowlands family.”

Family and friends will gather at Tauranga Sports Rugby Club on Thursday, August 19, at 1.30pm to farewell Greg.

Greg was profiled in 2016 on the after effects of head knocks in rugby. Rugby and dementia: Frustrating lapses warned loved ones all was not well, back when he was 68 and living "in a Tauranga care home for dementia patients" according to the associated Facebook post. 😞

@jc said in Awesome stuff you see on the internet:

    @baron-silas-greenback mmmm Rachel Riley.

EOOTCDC is consistently entertaining. We saw Sean Lock on one of the latest ones and he didn’t look well. Hope he’s OK.

Unfortunately, it appears that he wasn't.

Austin Mitchell, former British Labour MP, Historian, TV presenter, writer and all-round good bloke. Strong connection to NZ, and wrote a book on his experiences in NZ and invented the phrase The Half-Gallon Quarter-Acre Pavlova Paradise

Loved the story he used to tell of a Grimsby tourist who bumped into George W Bush at Ground Zero. “Where are you from?” asked Bush. “Grimsby,” said the visitor. “What state is it in?” asks the president. “Much the same as this,” came the reply

Def one of the good guys.

@sparky gutted, he was a great comedian, and some of his one-liners were phenomenal. Particularly enjoyed his work on 8 out of 10 cats and countdown.
