For a very long time NZ had a meaningful, competitive number of teams in the NPC. Then they went full retard and put 14 teams in the competition. Public interest and TV revenue plummeted.
Return to tradition and rationality and have 10 NZ teams!
9+9+9 is the strongest competition I've seen

Nah, just have a 2nd division. Any NZ team that finishes below all the Aussie teams is relegated and replaced with a div 2 team

Our five pro teams have regular "boys on the booze" flair ups, but we still absolutely flog them. They're about the 7th best team in the world.
We're bound by geography though, and it will never change. Hopefully their group of dumb assholes will by a clue in the next decade.

Ya reckon they will? Even at their peak RA preferred to pay over the odds for league converts instead of spending the money to develop the game at the grass roots level. That's not a viable longterm strategy

I'd hate losing Northland, but if merging was the only way we survived and part of something, I'd grudgingly get over it and go along screaming and.bitching to watch Northland Harbour play..but we know nzr won't make any changes so drastic.

Given the chance, Aus would fuck over NZ without giving it a seconds thought. Anybody who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves. Ultimately you have to do what's in your own interests. Japan is where we should be focussing all our efforts.

We need them and they need us. All this posturing from Australia is unhelpful, but we can't just ditch them.
For a long time, Australia had replaced SA as our primary foes. We cannot forget that just because Australia are going through a downswing.
Just playing NPC would be dull, and most casual fans wouldn't be interested. You can't just ignore the casual fans.
