    paps

His defence was good, and he made some good turnovers.

Sure but he was defensively out of position often around the ruck, silly off sides. Didn't say he was rubbish, just no way top 3

Akira, BBBR and ALB for me.
ALB with great defence, linking and turnovers

The same for me. Rieko the next on my list.

    According to stuff on AI:

Made a whopping 82 metres with game-high numbers for clean breaks (three) and defenders beaten (nine).

    Akira, Brodie and Reiko

So glad Reiko is back on the wing, now let's leave him there.

@canes4life It's possible, with Ennor back in the frame. They should give him game time against Argies though. He's seriously undercooked, just like Aumua.

Retallick was very good today. Looking forward to him and Whitelock combining at peak form.

    Weber?
    alt text

The ludicrous amount of "bounce" passes would see him kicked off most netball teams.

    Aoane
    Roane
    Havili

    Bubbling under:
    Bower
    Scooter
    ALB

@gt12 What is interesting about Akira is how much of it is mental for him, he has always had the talent but clearly had some issues that prevented him performing at his best. Whatever helped him switch on has clearly worked as he is at another level at the moment. For anyone who missed it, he gave a good interview with Ardie on his struggles.

    @stargazer
Havili played well but a lot of that 90 meters was the intercept.
Just for comparison, Akira's meters were coming off him swatting off tacklers.

dude you know there is a whole cohort just waiting for a mistake so they can pile back in about attitude and workrate and other madeup stuff. Same for his brother.

Yep, it's notable a couple of previous critics on here that can't even compliment him (many have to be fair).

The most pleasing thing for me last night was Akira's breaks were in the backend of the game. Puts to bed any fitness or workrate bullshit.

There are already complaints that he is (we are) playing him too wide, and that he has to move in against the really scary teams.

I think it's great that has taken the Read tramline role, it suits him perfectly with his pace and offload game. Cane will serve us well up the middle and/or Paps and Ardie usually plays up the middle too, but we can always bring our hooker back to the middle of the park if we want a flanker on both edges.

@frank What I don't understand is why posters try to diminish someone's stats/results by comparing him with another player, who also played well. Both can be good or even great. Just be happy that there seems to be a solution for previous "gaps" in the backrow and midfield.

Sonny Bill ( what an extraordinary pundit that guy is, probing questions hidden under the “bro” persona ) asked the man himself if he was because he’d cut down on the late night Maccas runs.

The bellowing laugh in response indicates to me this is probably true.
