The carbs always cop the bad rap but I don't think it's so much that carbs are evil but that they can be very high in calories.
Its not so much they are high in calories as they are the same calories per gram on protein its more that they dont satisfy easy, they can be process quickly and often leave you wanting more and more.
The other point is that we all are different and our bodies behave differently depending on the foods we eat. I know that I respond better to high protein, high/mod fats and low carbs. The wife though is quite the opposite and does very well on a high carb diet - she eats heaps of fruit and pasta etc and feels (and looks) flat without it.

@jk fark, how do you 200g.
Most stuff I read says ~30g in a sitting is the most your body processes, but I've seen some dudes that have upto 100g in a sitting.
Get those mushashi bars from the supermarket or servo. They’re about 45 grams a pop and the salted caramel one is sensational !!
They had a special on those the other week. I bought 20!

True dat and its also a hell of alot easier to consume more carbs than protein. I'm thinking that the breakdown itself (protein/fat/carbs) isn't that important. The important thing is to get enough protein and to stay under that calories threshold.

@jk I've never really tracked my eating for any sustained period, usually a few weeks max then stop.
I've never done it before but having a proper Garmin and the apps has made me much more aware of it and I find it really interesting. But ultimately you don't want it to rule your life.

Don't think I've logged any training this week.
Very solid. Reckon I've probably got the right formula now although boot camp is getting a bit meh. Might have to offer some suggestions to liven it up a bit. Some good ones from @JK recent workouts might do the trick.
Big thing is getting the diet right.

@rancid-schnitzel
These recent workouts are quite different to normal bodybuilding style weights I usually do in the gym. Just needed to get moving again after a week off when I was sick early in lockdown. No training today as had my vax shot yesterday and arms been a bit sore. Got some mountain biking done this arvo so not totally inactive today
Fat Amy tomorrow

GF got the shot on Tuesday. Could barely lift her arm the first few days. I'm up in October. Dreading it. Had the Swine flu one back in the day and was knocked out for days. Hopefully no dramas this time 🤞

Absolutely brutal period of work recently. Too much coffee and not enough sleep but training and diet (other than coffee) on point. Back in the day I would have sacrificed the training but not any more. Would be a wreck without that. Also managed 3rd week without treat meal. Going OK actually. Definitely feel much better on Sundays. Most important thing is to stay full and not starve. Added loads of cauliflower and broccoli which helps. Protein cake (or rather mash) is also more satisfying than a simple shake.
Reckon it has been good long term. I may have deserved the cheat days but they were absolutely ridiculous.

8 days...getting slack.
Bizarre occurrence on Saturday. In fact rather mindfucking. Got out of the pool on Saturday and the dad of one of the triathlete kids who swim right after told me to stop training there because I was making people envious and making the other dads look bad. Obviously that was meant as a compliment and my frail ego was lifted greatly. But that evening when being the good son and going over to my parents to watch the game my mum was all stroppy with me. I pushed as to why and she then burst into tears about how I was so thin and she couldn't bare it! Like full on farking tear session. I will say that the lack of cheat day now has me at a stupidly low body fat level but I'm still nowhere near farking marathon runner thin. Nowhere close. It's absolutely bizarre. It's like that generation think you're thin if you're not 5-10 kilos overweight.
Interestingly enough Lote Tiquiri (who is the exact same age as me) popped up on the TV to promote tourism up north. Now there's a guy who has let himself go. Looks like a bag of shit. I rather rudely commented on how well he was looking and asked my dear mum whether that was something I should aspire to.
Anyway, it's an absolutely bizarre situation when everyone around you (including complete strangers) are complementing you on your fitness, except for your own mother who is literally in tears about it. I want off this planet.

I’m 5 ft 9.5 and just dipped below 87kg. Wife saw me and said I’m looking really thin.
I have trained her well.

I saw that travel show masquerading as a promotion for the game the other night. I thought Lote definitely looked a bit less ripped than his playing days but I’d hardly say he’s let himself go. Geez you’re a hard taskmaster !
Well done on the other compliments though ! Closest I’ve had lately is that the other half and I look like a “fit and active couple”. Coming from the lardarse who said it didn’t mean too much though haha.

Good week. Bit less work and stress which helps. Not as much sleep as I would have liked due to that ginga cnut of a cat but that's nothing new.
Anyway, swimming cancelled by Hitler today due to him apparently seeing a storm front on the way. This was obviously a weak way of him getting a sleep in. Maybe a storm front over the Philippines was considered close enough for him? Whatever the case it was BS. So did back and tris at the gym and GF set up a great boot camp. Going from sled to battle ropes will fark you up royally!
Looking to go hard tomorrow. Found an interesting exercise: 400m then 20 burpees then 400m then 19 burpees until you get down to 1 burpee. Reckon I'll also chuck some abs in there and maybe chins. Should keep me busy.

Had Covid jab today. No side effects just yet although shoulder starting to ache. Have to lift a fridge tomorrow so might be in trouble.
Was pretty funny when getting my vac card. Woman working there asked if I was competing that weekend. Didn't know what she was on about but she meant a body building comp this weekend. Made me forget my anxiousness about the jab 😁(had a very bad reaction to the Swine Flu jab years ago).
-
Swimming last night was shit because I couldn't fully lift my arm (bloody covid jab). Had to do a heap of kick which sucks copious amounts of donkeys balls.
But chest and biceps went OK this morning. Still tender but hopefully all gone by the weekend.
-
@rancid-schnitzel she might have recently jabbed some bodybuilders who were competing? wouldn't be surprised if it was something like that. The good news is that you obviously have some muscle mass as well as lean as fuck. Nice!!
-
@rancid-schnitzel my 1st jab ached for about 24 hours, 2nd one barely at all.

Went fine for swimming this morning. Still tender if I push on the jab spot but otherwise OK. Reminds me of when I had a tetanus shot when I was about 10. That ached for a while.

Another very tough day on Saturday. The so-called "shred diet" might be good for the ego but it's completely useless for functional exercise or at least any serious form of cardio. The body simply needs that fuel to perform. Obviously doesn't help that the temp has risen and summer is upon us but the drop in energy is clearly obvious now.
Was pretty proud of myself on cheat day. Yes I ate 8 schnitzels but no ice cream or chips or candy. Protein bars help to take the edge off and I eat lots of fruit. It will be interesting to see how I go moving forward. Being able to wean myself off that stuff would be a huge achievement.
One thing I'm annoyed with is the Garmin for swimming. For some reason it can't measure kicking so it records this part of the set as rest. I'll put it on the cardio setting tonight and see if there's a difference. Ultimately it should record distance but it seems it's all about body movement. Very weird.

Upvote for schnitzels. Delicious.
