Northland have had enough second half ball to have won this game about three times over. But Otago just keep tackling.

One game doesn’t make a season. This puts us back to where we were before. Probably a very good representation of where we are at.

@kev no final to paper over the cracks this year, just this messed up covid to build a bridge over the crevices

We actually put together some good passages of play, but at the crucial moments our decision making and handling let us down.

Our player balance isnt right either, but we do have limited resources....2nd week in a row we take our best attacker off with 15/20 to go.

We could have won that by 20, instead we walk away with no points.

Did I see right that Northland had 83% possession in the second half?

@number-10 no that was territory, although possession woulda been high too, add in probably >5 mins in thier 22, yet we failed several times to cross the line...great d by Otago, but some clueless play by us.

Hawkins missed 3 makeable kicks. The penalty was a shocker. Then backed in up by taking a quick tap for a penalty with 3 minutes to go when cool heads were required. I thought the backline looked off tonight.

Reihana cost us two penalties with up and unders that went no where and put everyone offside. Then kicked the ball dead from a penalty. Accuracy matters.

First half on their line we throw long, but no one jumps. Then we piggy back penalty down field and in 2 plays we lost 90 metres. We need to be more clinical. No soft penalties.

We have been on attack forever with penalties / lineouts galore but we change and go to the scrum with them now a man down. Pick the ball of the back of poor scrum and go to the blindside away from support? Dumb. Did we know what we were doing.

I thought we were terrible tonight? It’s just that Otago were not much better apart from their opening 10 minutes.

Just want to see a fit Northland team being competitive in all phases for 80 minutes, knowing what they are doing.

After one good performance, and a bye week, the doom of another under prepared and under performing season is back.

@kev were several passages of play after multiple phases at ended because players seemed to not know what to do next...prime was when nock got tied up in the ruck, ball sits at the back fornthem to take...in that instance I think we had advantage...

We seem to be plugging a very short side alot this year.

I didn't mind the scrum call, it was just we, as we do often, had a randomly poor scrum and then went blind when the.scrum had turned slightly making blind wrong...not to mention nock made easy for Hammington who called 8 off early.

I think the scrum got worse with subs. Thought Te Whata Colley was hinging and looked weak at scrum time. I really wondered about the scrum option given Otago were not competing on the line so free throw. But as you say it wasn’t a terrible option but terrible execution.

Jeez we were lucky, played 15 minutes of good rugby, the first 10 and the last 5

Lentjes kept us in the game for the middle 65 min

@kiwiwomble fair play to your boys , rewarded for some very impressive defence.., not entirely sure what to make of your team , on paper it looks a very strong team with plenty of Super Rugby experience and an All Black first five to direct them around.

Lentjes had a good game. I felt after Northland woke up around the 15th minute through to the late stages they'd overcome and snatch a win. But the lack of discipline and errors cost them in the end.

@antipodean can't like that cos it's true...we could have put 40 on the board last night, but lack of discipline, poor options and not being able to adjust on the fly signs of a poorly coached team

Yeah, what I find most annoying is we had several players that I thought played well, arscott, ioane, koroi, lentjes and Gilbert all played well….just rarely at the same time or not in the same way

Northland applied a lot of pressure, I think one or two better passes or options and yeah, they could have put 40 on us in those middle 65 minutes
