FFS. Stuff like people cancelling the terms All Whites for the NZ soccer team and All Blacks for the NZ Rugby team used to be a joke. Now the PC Thought Police Brigade think they can tell everyone what to say and what to think, it's not such a joke.

I suggest "Los Blancos" as the new name.

Don't think it is taken yet? (except by the biggest football club in the world)

    Ma Katoa

I'm surprised this got so little love.

I intend charging NZ Soccer thoooooouuussands for this idea.

How come the All Whites are in the firing line and not the All Blacks ?

Is it cos one team is iconic and dominant and the other is shit ?

They aren't in the firing line. NZ Football is taking this stance under the assumption of being in the firing line in the near future.

What's the "firing line"? Some tweets from people who introduce themselves with their preferred pronouns?

Who then cause shit all over social media, who then get published in the mainstream media by lazy / thick journalists, all of which potentially affects the credibility of the team for a significant (but not necessarily large) portion of the public (mainly the idiots) who then won't let their idiot sons and / or daughters play or watch the sport, which further affects the credibility of the sport, which then obviously affects sponsorship and money into the sport (because Nike and all other likely sponsors have also gone woke), which means there's less money for the players and more importantly the administrators at all levels, which is actually what the name change is really seeking to avoid

It doesn't have to be that way. Simply clearly explain the origins of the name and history behind it. Anyone who then still has a problem with it will just expose themselves for the lunatics they are. Case in point: this thread.

I agree it doesn’t have to be this way but even if we do as you quite feasibly suggest people will still get scared about losing their jobs, money etc because there are enough examples of it happening to make those fears legitimate. I wish we lived in a world where calmly and rationally explaining things actually worked but it rarely does and as long as that’s the case people will continue to be bullied into stupid decisions like this to protect themselves and the people and things they love

    Football, Sport

'Will they change the All Blacks?': All Whites great on possible name change

'Will they change the All Blacks?': All Whites great on possible name change

The All Whites top goalscorer says he's baffled by any thoughts to change the team name.

All the more reason to stand up to it. I generally believe that this whole rotten edifice will come crashing down if some backbone is shown. And it should also be noted that the perpetually offended have the attention span of a gnat and you only need to wait it out for a bit until they latch on to the next thing to be offended about.

A bit like a rip, rather than fight perhaps its better to let it pass then carry on your business

OFC are trying to find a way to fuck over NZ football in the WC qualifiers. Oceania should just merge with Asia but that won't happen if Oceania gets a direct qualifier from 2026.

Fulham's nickname is The Whites - well one of them. We don't get any shit for it. We get shit for being 'posh' which some Fulham supporters doubled down on earlier this season by posting a video of them eating a cheeseboard with Port on the train on the way to an away game.

I did read an article a while ago by a Yank who accused Fulham fans of being racist because when he was at the Cottage the terraces were all chanting "Away You Whites"

The All Whites had a 4-0 win over Fiji in their second game of the Oceania WC qualifiers this morning. Chris Wood scored the first 2 goals, but could have a had a hat-trick inside 20 mins (he missed all of these chances). But he did create some history.

So the might of the Solomon’s and then I imagine a drubbing in South America?

Edit: looks like Costa Rica in the Middle East?

On track so far but I did imagine we'd be able to deal with Tahiti better than 1-nil.

Playing the game in the ME is a great advantage for us. Better than playing in front of a rabid South American crowd

Should have won 3-0 or 4-0. Some goal-line clearances, good saves from the GK and a couple of bad misses in front of goal meant that the final score was not a true reflection of the game. The Solomon Islands will pose a totally different threat than Tahiti as they have speed whereas Tahiti relied on being physical, often too physical. But in a one-off game anything can happen.

A 5-0 win to NZ over the Solomon Islands. Much easier than I expected. NZ's height caused the SI problems all night from corners and balls into the box.

We'll find out who NZ plays later in the play-off today, but likely Costa Rica.

@canefan Thanks for posting that link, it brings back great memories and shows Grant Turner in a much different light to what I generally thought.
