Got my bike back from the workshop yesterday afternoon...
So 25th-Dec - I'm plotting a full day's riding, ending in Taranaki at grandfather's place, who ain't doing well.
And reading this thread, with the mentions of delicious food and drink - particularly drink - I suddenly realised I'm going to spend all day riding, then get to my destination - without being able to buy any delicious delicious beer. I'm going to have to pretend to be pleased to accept a Speights Dark, or Tui.
Have I mentioned previously "Fuck Tui" ?
I might grab a bottle of whisky this afternoon, tuck it in the backpack, so at least there's something delicious, if not necessarily exactly refreshing.
Christmas lunch is looking like a BP pie.Go for Pepper steak at BP in bulls. I always have two…..as for beer, well I can’t help you there
I am SOOOO fucking tempted to send a message to my family, saying "buy some decent beer for me, you cheap pricks".
Just do it. I’ve already advised there’d better be more exciting options tomorrow than Steinie fucken ‘classic’
My mother still doesn’t grasp the fact that all beer does in fact NOT taste the same.
if you don't like what's on offer take your own you cheap fluffybunny
I’ll probably have to just to be safe. Worse still there’ll probably be a ‘drinks upgrader’ there who brings Tui, puts it in the chilly bin then takes a ‘communal’ beer ( ie one of my Garage Projects or Panheads ) just when I thought 2021 couldn’t get any worse.

Merry Christmas, may it be safe, relaxing and full of merriment with your loved ones.

Ahhh miss good old NZ Christmases. However will probably start the day early with a quick dip in the Indian Ocean followed by breakfast, Champagne and gift giving ( at a reasonable time for the teenage Nevorians) and then as it is going to be 43 degrees and Covid has finally arrived here finding a shady spot in the garden with close access to cool refreshments and loud music for the neighbours. Enjoy everyone and stay safe

All this talk about beaches and Christmas has resulted in me convincing Mr Meldrew we should go for a walk on the beach at Lansallos Cove on Boxing Day.
Happy Christmas Eve from wet and wintry Cornwall.
-
Merry Christmas Eve and Nadolig Llawen for tomorrow
Decamping to my better half’s family for the festivities

Love Cornwall even when it is wet and windy

And the tourists at Christmas are generally nice people, unlike some of the staycationers we've had during the pandemic.

Merry Xmas all!
We've got lamb chops & smoked bacon for brunch, then foie gras and ham with a Mont d'or lined up for lunch tomorrow. We have 6 bottles of Champagne, a Sauternes, and Two Barolos, plus a 16 year old Lagavulin.
Should be enough for four of us
This place has been a good place to rant this year, and the discussion here has been much appreciated.

The bears are trying to cop a feel and who could blame them ?

Merry Christmas bro’s and broettes.
My whanau on Christmas Eve and the outlaws on Christmas Day. Plenty of food, laughs and hopefully very little COVID or politics talk!
Stay safe whanau.

Hope everyone gets a great break and spoiled rotten and/or shitfaced without any grief.
Last year we went out to a local pub which was a bit exy at $115/head but made prep and cleaning up simple. This year we're back to hosting so the last few days has been a bake fest for Mrs TA.
Tomorrow is roast pork in the BBQ + whatever else she's got planned. Shouldn't be any family tension as it'll just be us + kids, Mrs TA's Alco Dad, and her brother whose kids will drop in at some point before their utter fluffybunny of a mum whisks them away again.
Mrs TA's mum is still in dementia care and only single visitors apparently - they've had a couple of cases of The-Infection-That-Cannot-Be-Named so the situation is pretty fluid. I'm not going, to say the least.
My brother is stationed in South Sudan right now, my mum is in rural Queensland which is about the same.
The goal for me is to be visibly supportive of my wife, get through the day, and not complain about the quantity of food we will be chucking away.
Roll on Boxing Day.

Roast pork and picanha went down a treat last night. Champagne and red wine ensured I coma'd out on the couch halfway through die hard 2. I can relax and enjoy my in laws hospitality with a turkey lunch. Merry Xmas day wishes to all of you wherever you are

Indeed. Other half had planned a walk but I had to cancel cos it’s the first day of the Boxing Day ashes test and I’ll need a day of no people so she’ll go shopping and leave me to cricket and beer even though ‘New Zealand aren’t even fucken well playing!!’ ( her words )
