I couldn't give a shit about the Monkees. But of course thats what most of the vapid mainstream commentary will be on.
His post Monkees career was so much more interesting. His early 70's country records are really good.
Agreed. I also like some of his later stuff- his album "The Newer Stuff" was pretty fun and I had on high rotation on my walkman in the early 90's

During this time, Nesmith created a video clip for "Rio", which helped spur Nesmith's creation of a television program called PopClips for the Nickelodeon cable network. In 1980, PopClips was sold to the Time Warner/Amex consortium. Time Warner/Amex developed PopClips into the MTV network.[citation needed]
Nesmith's mother invented Liquid Paper.

Another still young former rugby player cut down in the prime of his life, Taniela Moa.
From Auckland Rugby's Facebook page:
"Auckland Rugby would like to acknowledge the sad passing of Taniela Moa.
Taniela had 58 caps in the Blue and White Hoops winning two NPC titles with the Union. Taniela also went on to represent Tonga on 20 occasions.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to the Moa family at this time." -

Former England and Yorkshire cricketer and coach, Ray Illingworth has died.
787 first class games with batting and bowling average of 28 and 20 respectively. Wow.
Outstanding captain and tactician who managed the likes of Boycott better than anyone and got the best out of his players. Up there with the best ever.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

Really sad about Tutu's death. Always had a smile on his face, a wicked wit and always told it like it was.
Remember him being interviewed on TV and praising FW De Klerk for accepting Apartheid was wrong and having the courage to end it. When the interviewer mocked his praise he smiled, and gently said to the interviewer "When did you last tell your wife you were wrong and she was right?"
What a class act he was.
