Those with the violins out which of Southee, Wagner, Boult or Jamieson are we dropping here? Wouldn't it be just as unfair to drop one of those after the WTC and ascension to the Number 1 ranking?

This Ajaz Patel thing kind of needs to go the way of 2MP making dual tons in his final test. A memorable moment for NZ cricket but let's use our brains here.

If we need Ajaz to take 10 wickets in 47 overs against the Bangles at home then we are in serious trouble.

from 2019, bur relevant. Our pitches don't favour spinners. It's a four pronged pace attack for mine

Probably the most sensible cricket post I’ve ever read and nice analogy.

Ajaz will be forgotten when the four seamers are tearing through the bangies.

They don’t favour them but some have been extremely poor too

I think you've made a strawman for yourself.

    It's a 13, not an 11.

I wouldn't pick Patel in a home 11 with the current resources we have and the type of pitches we produce.

But a 13 should give some options for unexpected pitch conditions or last minute injury.

Patel would actually cover for all 4 bowlers in the squad (as Jamieson and Wagner can slide up one spot if an opener pulls out). Where as Henry only covers the 2 opening bowlers. His record as 3rd seamer or lower is appalling.

So, IMO, Patel would be a better squad inclusion.

But. I do actually hope Southee gets rested for 1 match and Henry gets a game this series, as opening bowler.

Patel will be OK getting some actual games for CD after his Auckland lockdown spring.

The 4 seamers plus Ravindra balance is heading towards the on-paper holy grail balance. So, they'll play Mitchell ....

Beccause Mt Maunganui , and Hamilton, is one of the few modern venues in NZ where picking a spinner can be worth while.

But, they have groundsmen in their pockets these days. So no dramas.

The issue is more they want to pick Ravindra regardless because of balance and potential. So if Patel were to replace one of the seamers you all of a sudden have a 3 pace / 2 spin attack. If he replaces Ravindra we have too long a tail.

If Patel is required to seriously contribute on NZ pitches against the Bangles as a fourth bowler we are well on our way to losing the test.

Bangladesh have some good players but they shouldn’t come close to troubling us at home even with the great KW not playing. Big interest to me is how Conway and Young continue to develop at this level, also how Rossco goes as he counts the days to retirement and if Nicholls proves he’s more than a flat track bully ( although he’s on a hiding to nothing here ). Whatever happens the four seamers should plow through them reasonably comfortably.

Bored of seeing them tour here YET AGAIN though, they’re here every fucken summer !

Looking at the pitch report I couldn't tell which was the pitch being used and which are on the block.

Normally the greenness of NZ pitches are an illusion.

Young to open and Conway to bat at 3.

That's very interesting - the way of the future?

Actually I think it was a draw.

You'd be grumpy to be given out with 2 umpires calls though.

Maybe they don't want to win inside 3 days? 😉

Not too bad. First 10 overs was tough. 8-1 off 10 overs. Now 56-1 off 22 overs. Last 12 overs have been 4 an over.

Bangles over rate is pretty bad.
