The best part about the clash between the Windies and the Poms is that England have players called Stokes, Woakes and Foakes.

And interestingly one should never tour overseas, one should not have toured Australia and one should always be touring.

Strangely enough leaving out Anderson and Broad doesn’t appear to have sorted Englands top order issues.

I see the need for managing both Anderson and Broad and I also see the need for looking for and blooding long term replacements but were going back to picking the trundlers save for Wood. He is a bit like Devon Malcolm in that he has the pace but is sometime a bit awry and there fore not trusted. But as a batsman (which I never was) I think I'd rather face a trundler that puts it on or near the spot than an out and out pace man where I don't know where the fuck it's going.

Steve Waugh said much the same back along

Bloody hell, England are 189/1 !!!!

Given the West Indies have been prone to horrific collapses for about, well 20 odd years it’s fair to say the Poms are in the box seat.

Unbelievable to see anyone other than Root in the top order get a ton too. Well done Creepy Crawley

    Match drawn.

I think England have found their level currently cos that Windies team is chock full of ordinariness, Holder and Roach aside.

Both nations have given us SOOOOOOOO many legends in the past though. I hope they make it back to the top again.

    Pakistan Australia.

Aus have found some reverse swing, and after posting 556/9, have Pakistan 62/4. Starc is some bowler- picked up two good wickets in the over.

Only day 3, so a long long time to go in the test yet. Looking ominous for Pakistan I fear

it's great that Aus are there - and this is a stellar performance. Bat once, bat big, win the test.

But they’re not…..I’m no cricket captain but why are Oz batting again ?

Geez Australians like selecting guys called Mitchell. Who is Swepson ? I know enough about Johnson, Starc and of course @NTA favourite Marsh but nothing about this guy……

to avoid batting last! Put the game out of reach, there's plenty of time to have a real crack at them

    @mn5 no idea about swepson.

As for batting again: rest the bowlers, have a slog, win the match. Nobody enforces follow on any more.

I thought you knew cricket stuff?

Just cos I talk a lot about something doesn’t mean I know it.

not enforcing the follow on is very interesting

Perhaps the slog of the first test took more of a toll than we know? Combine that, with having 2 spinners and maybe they really want to make sure they bowl last?

I tell you what, if they run out of the time the new brains trust is in for some hard questions given the "pace" of day 2.

Pakistan need to score about a bazillion runs in the fourth innings, but Australia have left them a lot of time too...

An earlier declaration than I was expecting, but the cracks in the pitch will probably have the last say.

314 to win on the last day, with8 wickets in hand.

Strong advantage Aus, but batting the draw out is really credible

If Pakistan put away the first innings runouts and stupid shots, they can win without doubt.

That was probably part of the thinking to turn down the follow-on: these blokes won't shoot themselves in the foot a second time.
