Ah fuck
Always seemed like a good guy. Told Greg Chappell to pull his head in to no avail in 1981.
First off, RIP Rod.
Secondly was that the case ? I was three and a half years old when the underarm happened so to be fair the memory is a bit hazy but I’ve read a bit on it and don’t recall that happening ( again, recent memory might be a bit hazy for different reasons ) Pretty easy for the kiwi press to label all Aussies fluffybunnies I guess…..
I find it interesting that he didn’t make the list of 100 greatest cricketers in my favourite cricket book I have ( keepers like Gilly, Alan Knott, Jack Blackham, Godfrey Evans, Syed Kirmani, Les Ames, Wasim Bari, Ian Healy and Andy Flower all ranked above him ) but he always seemed highly rated elsewhere ? ( others of his generation like Jeff Dujon and our own Ian Smith missed out too )
I suppose wicket keeper is a really tough position to gauge “greatness”…….but 96 tests behind the stumps to Lilliee, Thommo, Pasco and whoever else plus a cheeky trio of test hundreds speaks of a pretty fucken decent cricketer to me.
RIP once again.
I actually saw him keeping to Lillee and Thommo at Lancaster Park. I swear he was in position probably half way to the boundary and he was within earshot of the renowned number 5 stand and was able to take plenty of the sledging with good humour

Peter Bowles, actor best known for To The Manor Born, but a heck of lot more than that.
One of those British actors you see everywhere and you know will always be excellent - from Shakespeare, thru TV drama, experimental films to sitcoms.

@mn5 There is good wrestling out there. In the link below is this weeks weekly tv show All Elite Wrestling Dynamite. Pretty much all the matches in this, a weekly free show, are better than any of the pay per view matches that WWE has put on in the last few years

Mr Basketball NZ dies. I'm very saddened by this. Back in the 80s when I was a lad, the Saints were my team, the glamour team of NZ basketball. And at the head of that was Kenny McFadden, along with Angelo Hill and later Kerry Boagni. Since then he has done much to foster the basketball youth, most notably mentoring Stephen Adams. Another great taken far too early
