Denny Solomona has signed with North Harbour

Not that he'll play for Southland any time soon, but it's great if players stay loyal to their home province (or province where their career started), no matter whether they're a team at the top or at the bottom.

No reason to leave. Mitre 10 cup is an audition for Super Rugby. If you already have a contract, you may as well stay put. I assume for most players it depends on their living situation. i.e. if you play for the Hurricanes and own/rent a house in Wellington, it makes sense to play for Wellington rather than Shield Snorters. If you are good enough to be an All Black, then you should stay with your original province.

MacLeod makes some interesting comments about the relationship between the Highanders and Southland compared to what the Blues are now doing with their provinces.
“We get a wee bit of love from the Highlanders but not a lot. [The Highlanders] are more inclined to go elsewhere, where the Blues are more inclined to help the Northlands, North Harbours, and Aucklands to build their group.”

Meanwhile the Canes are "Wellington now, Wellington tomorrow, Wellington forever".

It pretty damning really, you look at the Crusaders as the template and one of the the things they have done it help turn Ta$man into a powerhouse, 2x string local unions has to be good for us...not sure why we're not copying...can just be because Nelson is a nicer place to live than Invers
dont get me wrong, im glad...but resigning guys that failed to get us promoted last year is the least we should be doing

@kiwiwomble The irony is that Roger Clark is the former Southland CEO so would have an understanding of how Southland has been treated previously.
