@MN5 Diamond girl, play for you and a couple others in my youth. Good yacht rock stuff.

Is it yacht rock or folk rock ?

I’d consider yacht rock stuff with smooth synthesisers and saxophones. Michael McDonald, Some Steely Dan, Boz Skaggs, some Toto, Christopher Cross etc.

Perhaps @Tim can clear it up ?

@MN5 lol. Admitting liking music in the yacht rock category would be devastating to one’s credibility. @tim save us although I down with whatever.

@MN5 That song definitely has some smooth and jazzy elements, but it's not quite there, especially in the vocals and some of the rhythm section. A bit early, like earlier Steely Dan.

By 1980 they were definitely making yacht rock though.

Bit more of a bounce in this one.

BTW, this website collected the scores from the official yacht rock podcast:

I think “any ferner” and “credibility” are an uneasy mix at best.

One of my favourites from the legend that was Bowie.

And for something more recognisable this one’s always worth a closer listen. The lyrics are quite something. Bowies cocaine period.
BTW I reckon David Sanborn’s sax work on this is as iconic as the line on Gerry Rafferty’s Baker St

Had to post this now. When it comes to classic one hit wonders this takes the cake

Back the late 80s I saw a band in a West London pub by chance that happened to be Raphael Ravenscroft. The blower of the classic sax line.

I can’t accept that as a one hit wonder when he sung “ Stuck in the Middle with you” ( admittedly with different band members )

We started a thread for one hit wonders but fuck it I’ll chuck this here.
