I was pleasntly surprised by Terminator: Salvation. Thought it was better than the poor advance reviews had led to expect. However it was by no means a great movie, even by the standards of Summer blockbusters and it did appear to be cobbled together from the parts that worked in other movies.

Loved the washed out look of the movie and thought that for the most part the CGI blended in well with the real actors as well as any movie I have seen. This was especially noticable for me when Sam Worthington's character jumped onto the Hunter Killer. So many movies have had real actors on top of moving CGI objects that look really, really bad.

I am always amazed that a film of this size can go into production without a finished script.

6.5/10.

Perhaps slightly better than T3 but not as good as T1 or T2. Would watch a fifth installment but that's probably all the legs the franchise has left.

    Awake; Hayden Christenson, Jessica Alba

Nice crime thriller, maintains the tension throughout.

Christensen undergoes heart transplant surgery, and while under the anaesthetic, he is still 'awake' but paralysed and unable to move or speak...

Watched Forgetting Sarah Marshall last night, some very funny bits in that, actually there are 'bits' hanging out all over the place. By the same guys who did Knocked Up, Superbad etc.

Decent non-cringe date dvd.

Yeah but [spoiler:vyt1rwat]don't you think he would have known he was a machine ? he was super strong and survived a huge fall with barely a scratch. Now I think about it I don't think the Terminators ( how cool was that really big one with moterbikes coming out of its legs ? ) ever directly targeted him, more the humans he was with....nice little twist though, unlike the people I went with I hadn't seen the trailers so it was a bit of a surprise[/spoiler:vyt1rwat]

Watched "The Hunting Party" on the weekend. 3 journalists trying to find a Serbian war criminal 5 years after the end of the civil war, with Richard Gere, Terrance Stamp, and a cameo by a very un-made up Diane Kruger (still hot though).

Apparently loosely based on a true story, its pretty damn entertaining actually, and asks a lot of questions about how the authorities are never able to find these people, are they actually trying? Doesn't take itself too seriously though, i was thoroughly entertained.

A rating in the 7s.

Watched 'The Knowing" lastnight, not bad.
Pretty silly plot, but the scenes with the Plane and subway were very impressive. After that though i had the feeling i was watching an advertisement for one of those religious cults that believe they will be taken away by Aliens.

Only thing missing was the movies cast wearing sneakers.

Terrence Howard. yeah agreed, it was good value.

Terminator: Forgettable, disappointing, too much like a Bay movie. CGI was fantastic (chopper scene at the start is great), but plot was disjointed and the script was mostly average and sometimes downright cringe worthy ("I'll be back"). Worthington overshadowed Bale by a large margin.

OSS 117 Cairo Nest of Spies

French comedy with english subtitles ... Hilarious romp in Cairo 1955, involving spies, nazis, crazy puns and jokes.

Over here the multicultural channel SBS has changed their second channel to have a couple of movies per night. Did an IMDB on this one and it sounded quite good, and it was ...

I took the I'll be back as humourous as I assumed it was intended, as did the rest of the theatre when I saw it. I actually thought Bale was good except for one scene when he did his deep Batman doing Judge Dredd voice.

Terminator Salvation was actually better than I expected.

I give it a rating of 4/10.

------------------------------------------

Went to see Sam Raimi's new horror-splatter-gore-comedy "Drag Me to Hell." It's got a smoking 93% rating at Rotten Tomatoes, but made me expect something more than it actually delivered.

Film is not as silly as his "Evil Dead/Army of Darkness" trilogy, and not as serious as "A Simple Plan," but contains elements of both.

Protaganist chick works as a loan officer at a bank. She's up for a promotion in a contest with a co-worker. When an elderly Gypsy woman with a glass eye pleads for an extension on her third late mortgage payment, the loan officer, wanting that promotion, plays hardball. And of course, the gypsy woman feels shame and puts a curse on the young loan officer. Gore and hilarity ensues.

Rating: 7.5/10

Have you guys seen the trailer for the new Peter Jackson-produced Wingnut flick "District 9" by a young Saffer director named Neill Blomkamp?
Heavy street display promotion for the film on billboards and across bus-stops in Toronto.

This may have already been covered, however due to the terrible, terrible waste of my life that I endured yesterday I am going to hammer it home.

I was stoked to see a LoveFilm envelope (postal DVD service here in the UK) on the doormat upon my return from gainful employment yesterday, and so after watching the Lions game I opened another bottle of Fursty Ferret ale and sat down to watch my movie.

Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull or whatever it is called.

Used to love watching Indy but this film was so terrible I am still quite angry.

Is there anyway to sue Hollywood for making such a dreadful film?

That may very well have been the stupidest scene of any film of last year.
